Re: New Release Ready for Testing

I've tried Use Texture Buffer and all the scaling modes, and deleted the above directories, but with OpenGL I'm getting either a black canvas, white canvas with thick black border, or on the odd occasion (provided it doesn't hang or crash), white canvas.

Win 8.1 64 bit, Geforce 9600 GT.

Edit: I also just discovered that the crop tool causes the image to appear dark grey, whether in OpenGL mode or not. It doesn't save that way though. Can't get the colour picker to work either, and I seem to remember when using the Transform tool that holding shift while scaling would scale uniformly, but it doesn't seem to work now either. Generally I'm having all kinds of troubles with this version...

Edit again: something's not quite right with the scratchpad - first it stopped working after a few strokes, and just now it's stopped recognising pressure.

Hi Chris Jones, most of those problems used to happen before the current development build (2.7.8.29), but they've been solved by now. If I were you I'd double-check I was indeed using the latest windows build.
Forgive me, I'm not trying to sound obnoxious here. Just to be sure, since a simple mistake sounds more likely than a full list of regressions in the latest build.

I'm 99.9% certain that's the build I'm using. There's no build number that I can find in the installation though, so I can't claim that last 0.1% without reinstalling (which I can't do at the moment as I'm in the middle of a tight deadline)... is there a feature that only exists in this version that I could check to confirm?

Thx.

Hi, Chris!

You can check the version of the Krita package installed in "Control Panel->Uninstall Program" dialog. The full version of the Krita package will be mentioned there.

The problem with the Color Picker and modifiers might be related to the fact that you need to remove Canvas Input Settings directory, which is "C:\Users\username\App Data\Roaming\kde4\share\apps\krita\input". After removing that, the Ctrl-shortcut will work again.

One of the "unique" features of .29 is the dynamic rendering of the Brush Outline in Hover Mode. Select any brush preset that has "Drawing Angle" sensor active and try to hover mouse over the canvas without painting on it. If the outline rotates, then it is probably the most recent version :)

Thanks for the reply,

I can confirm that it is indeed 2.7.8.29. The directory you refer to doesn't exist on my PC (I think it might have been one of the ones I deleted), and there is no brush outline whatsoever when hovering.

After I installed it I replaced the contents of C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\krita\share\apps\krita with those of a previous version so as to retain all my brushes and settings, could that be to blame?

Another issue that keeps cropping up is layers often go missing when merging with the layer below, which is usually fixed by undoing a few times and then trying again. Also cropping sometimes results in an invisible canvas, and checking the dimensions it appears to have shrunk to 1 x 1, and an undo or 3 usually restores it to the proper cropping. I am working with a rather large image though (20,000 x 2,747), not sure if that's a contributing factor.

For me, 2.7.8.29 has been crashing to the desktop seemingly at random. I finally figured out exactly what steps it takes to reproduce this at will.

It happens every time that I try to paint on a layer that is not visible. Instead of showing a warning that the layer is not visible, it crashes to the desktop.

I reinstalled my tablet drivers, and reinstalled Krita ( after first deleting the profile folders in AppData). Still happening on a clean install.

Maybe somebody could try the following steps to help me figure out if it's isolated to my machine.

1. Create new image
2. Add layer
3. Paint a brush stroke on the new layer
4. Hide the new layer
5. With the hidden layer selected, try to paint a brush stroke

For me, the above steps produce a crash to the desktop every time.

For now, I will be really careful about which layer is selected, and save my work frequently as I go.

While we're reporting bugs, I come here with an incredible offer: not one but SEVEN issues for the absolute price of zero! Buy them now >:D
In 2.7.8.29 (Win 7 64-bit):

A) When using the crop tool, dragging the crop area toward the edges of the canvas changes the dimensions of the crop area, even when the aspect ratio lock checkbox is checked (in fact the aspect ratio gets changed regardless).

B) When loading a new file, the Open file dialog shows the most recent used folder. This is alright and expected. Unfortunately, the Save file dialog (for new documents) doesn't remember the folder, and always loads the Krita installation folder.

C) Sometimes, when saving a new document, opening the Save prompt via the hotkey (Ctrl+S), after saving the file the dialog closes normally, but the Control key is still registered as being pressed. So if I click on the canvas to draw a stroke with a brush, what Krita does instead is pick up a color with the dropper tool (as in Ctrl+click). I have to press Control once for Krita to "depress" it.

D) Sometimes (and I've only noticed on first run after boot) after changing a tool from the Tool bar using the mouse, such as Select rectangle, the first click on the canvas won't register. So if I click and drag, nothing happens. I have to click a second time and it will work from then on.

E) When quitting Krita with unsaved changes, a dialog pops up prompting to save the 'unnamed' document. Even when the document is not a new file. It should show the actual filename instead.

F) Here's a 100% reproducible bug: 1) Create a new image. 2) Right click. 3) Choose a pencil from the wheel (or any other non-default brush). 4) Draw a stroke. 5) Notice it's not the chosen brush. It's the default brush instead. (If you right-click and choose a brush again, it will work the second time onwards.)

G) Sometimes, quickly undoing and re-doing a change in a layer's opacity makes the actual layer opacity enter a loop where it alternates between different opacities every second or so. Actually, I'm not sure this is a bug, because it lets you see the difference between opacities in a nifty way :D But yeah, it's crazy. And funny too.

I'll be on the lookout for more. xD

Can you guys actually report it officially as bugs? Some I can reproduce, some not, but always it is the best to officially report bugs (Help/Report Bug...)

Re: New Release Ready for Testing

Well, I come here with another digital painting made with Krita for Windows: A tribute to Nelson Mandela - www.blendtuts.com/madiba

As a sidenote, I experienced a crash when trying to apply a blur filter to a layer. And something strange: If you see the video, there was a point in which I tried to warp a layer, but what happened is that it didn't work: I wasn't able to drag the points, and when pressing Esc it would take a while to be able to work again, almost felt like a crash, but then it worked again.

Also, a little question :P Is it possible to select more than one layer and convert them in a single one? The only way I found to do this was to merge a layer with the one right below it. Thanks!

Hi, interesting video and a nice tribute image! It's a pity that it's so hard to investigate crashes on Windows, I haven't heard of crashes with blurring for a long time. Currently it's not possible to select multiple layers. It's something I've been looking into, in my copious spare time, but there are lots of potential problems there...

Thanks for your reply, Boudewijn :) Yeah, I guess selecting several layers at once may be a tricky thing. For now, what I try to do is to put the layers I want inside a folder, and convert the folder to a paint layer (takes time, though, but it works :)

Just a quick question, gmic is still unusable in windows, right?
