Can't Install Krita on my Windows XP System

I downloaded the Krita installers for 64 bit, 32 bit, and XP with all Service Packs, but none will install. I always get an error message saying that I need a Service Pack with a "newer installer". I'm pretty sure I have all the Service Packs for my system, and when viewing system info, this is confirmed, saying "Service Pack 3". Can anyone help me with this?

Thank you.

Please provide a screenshot of this error message. Also, can you confirm that you have installed all necessary updates? If I recall correctly, Microsoft did update the Windows Installer system at one point during the lifetime of Windows XP. Please also note that only the XP builds (from viewtopic.php?f=281&t=118467) will work on XP due to additional methods used by the regular Windows builds which are only provided by Vista and newer.

Hi, Im making the XP builds.

The error you are seeing on XP is caused because of a check during the install process. The Installers use the newer microsoft installer. You can download and install from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=8483# It will not work without it. Normally a fully up todate XP will have version 4.5 of microsoft installer. but in some rare cases it's missing (I had it missing on one of the XP machines at home). The microsoft installer update should install without problems, but if your system has been long time without updates you will need to update other components. I'm totally confident that Service Pack 3 does not bundle the newer installer. I thought so at the beginning but I was mistaken.

If you get to the installer and you get a message like "XP not supported" or "Only windows vista an up" then I might have missed something in the building process.

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks very much. The installer update fixed the install process. But Norton antivirus is blocking Krita from opening because of a "Suspicious" file named Cloud.F.

I'm going to open a new thread on this problem.

Thanks again for your assistance.

I scanned the files and the computer that makes the build. The files and the machine results came out clean. Its safe to say the files are false positives.

I have a different antivirus solutions. The build machine is running Avast at the moment, and the test machine is running Avira Free. After your report I decided to check the files with ESET NOD32 online tool. No file reported an infection.

Similar issue, except I'm installing Krita 2.7.8.7. It installs just fine, but on startup I get this little error message:

krita.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point inet_pton could not be located in the dynamic link library WS2_32.dll.

Soooooo, I don't know what this means or what to do about it. Please help. Thanks

With Microsoft stopping support for XP, we've also stopped providing packages for Windows XP. You really should consider upgrading to a supported version of Windows or installing Linux.

If it helps:
Anyone suffering from XP issues probably is missing a Microsoft windows update. I no longer believe the system is still available for XP installations. The packages I make work on up to date XP systems (well at least feb 2014). Using uninstaller tools or registry cleaner may harm your systems integrity making some programs to fail.

I strongly advice to get a supported Operating System.

I'm trying to wedge Linux Mint onto that machine now, but it doesn't look promising. I may have to see what I can borrow. Thanks.
