Each time a new build comes along I'm faced with transferring my custom brushes, presets etc across, and that doesn't always go smoothly. So far I've been backing up the AppData/Roaming/Krita directory and then writing it over that location after installing the new build, but I haven't been able to establish whether that's the right way to go about it. There's the "Import resource" button in the "Choose brush preset" palette of course, but it fails to bring the custom brush image in with the preset, plus it's tedious when you have a lot of brushes to import.
What's the recommended backup/restore method? Thanks. (c: Krita 2.7.9.4, Win 8 64 Bit |

Hm, weird -- the installer doesn't touch that location, so you can just leave it in place and all should be fine. The only possible problem is with the input configuration file: input/kritadefault.profile.
For the rest, zipping the Roaming/krita directory is the recommended way of making a backup at the moment. |

I've had problems with restoring brushes in the past, and even now I find that my deleted work-in-progress brushes keep returning from the dead with each new build (all with the same icon, which makes it hard to know which is the most recent one). Part of my concern was that I might be inadvertently overwriting things that have changed in that directory with consecutive builds, but if that's not the case I'll keep on doing what I'm doing. I have been replacing everything including the "input" folder though, so I'll give that one a miss next time just in case.
Thanks Boudewijn! (c: |

On a related note, should Krita be uninstalled before installing a new version?

Here is what I do : ( Krita top menu ) Edit > Ressources > Open Ressources Folder To backup : copy all inside this folder, and store them in a safe place. To restore ; just delete everything inside this folder , and paste a backup version. |

No, that's not really necessary. |
