All black PNG file...

Fri Feb 07, 2014 12:57 pm
Image
When I open this small illustration in Krita the file is all black, no image is visible. In Photoshop and Painter and Paint.NET the background is transparent, just like it is supposed to be. Something is wrong with this baby...and all other transparent PNG:s too that I have made in programs outside Krita. But, not if I make a PNG in Krita, save it, and open it. The transparency is there... Download my fly and test it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4914643/flugan.zip

Any idea about this?

Hello Henrystahle,

Your png image works fine on my computer as well (Windows 7 - 64 bit with Krita 2.8 beta 2)

Here is the screenshot:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/309 ... ly_png.png

BTW, whenever you unistall Krita on Windows, you need to delete *manually* these two krita *hidden* folders as well (yeah, it is a bit boring...):
C:\Users\name-user\AppData\Local\krita
C:\Users\name-user\AppData\Roaming\Krita

I suppose CCleaner is unable to delete both of them because these 2 krita folders are not listed in the Windows Registry (regedit).
In the past, I have used this nice utility myself on Windows to try to purge all Krita contents and this was the case (they were not deleted...)

Best regards!

Computers are funny this way. I have NEVER deleted those folders and I am installing every new Krita build. Never had problems because of that :D (I had problems related to software bugs but not to those folders).

Hello Nezumi,

For sure computers are funny toys indeed: when you try "Beta-softwares" the result is often weird ;D

Regarding the 2 Krita hidden folders you are totally right in that it is *not* mandatory to delete both of them before installing a new beta-Windows version of Krita (on top of this further step being a bit time-consuming...).
With my classical setup (Windows 7 - 64 bit; Cpu I7; Gpu Nvidia Geforce GT540M; Ram 8 bg) I can not use the OpenGL option.
This feature does not work: the mouse's cursor disappears and it is no longer visible on the canvas.
In the past, I was forced to delete these two hidden folders to get krita fully working again.

Im my view, these 2 folders should be probably deleted by the Krita uninstaller itself (OR, even much better, this should be available as an option given to the user listing to him the pros and cons of this choice).
The goal of this option (delete or not) would be to leave the user's Windows system as clean as possible.
It should be noted that, if you do decide to delete both of these folders, you end up by *losing* many Krita personal "Preferences" (e.g. the list of your recent documents is no longer available later on!!!).

This being said, since I am not a Krita programmer, I am sure that Boud can offer the final correct suggestion ;D

EDIT
Just read a bug-report (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=330728) where Boud speaks his mind about this subject. Here is a short recup:
" The files in the Roaming folder are your settings, your custom brushes and so on. So it's not right for the installer to remove those if you uninstall krita -- you might just do that before you install the new version, and you wouldn't forgive me for deleting your brush sets, I guess!"

Best regards!

I discovered this "black PNG" thing after installing the latest Krita build. Before installing Krita I removed everything from the Krita folder; a clean install that was. The "black PNG" is still there, but, if I zoom in and out in the image it suddenly becomes all right. Strange things happens! Here is a screen recording of what happens: http://youtu.be/2BrJgX2FA54

I have the same issue. No big problem for me as it only happens when opening a new file (png) and zooming in/out "fixes" it. So it is not a windows-only problem. (latest 2.8 beta build on opensuse)

is that with or without opengl enabled? Or doesn't that make a difference?

Happens only with openGL activated + Bilinear Filtering or nearest neighbour, no problem with trilinear or high quality or openGL deactivated.

Hi everyone,

Just installed the newest version of Krita 2.8 beta 3 (2.7.9.10 - x64) ;D
THANKS a lot indeed to Boud for releasing it ;)

This new system is:
Windows 8 - 64 bit
Cpu Intel I7; Gpu Nvidia Geforce 740M; Ram 8 Gb

I have enabled the OpenGL feature (which does work on this system).
I have tried over and over to reproduce this bug to no avail...

With both the Bilinear Filtering and the nearest neighbour options on the png works fine (tried several levels of zoom).
I closed and reopend Krita several times as well (in order to try to catch any possible problem)
Actually, when I open this image there is a very short lag (1-2 seconds at most) with the black canvas but it suddenly disappears and the fly image is shown fine (with its transparent background as well).

Maybe is it a GPU problem (related to the OpenGL feature)?

BTW, the Krita > help window still shows beta 2 (not beta 3....).
Here it is:
Version 2.8 Beta 2 (git e2f65ad)
Using KDE Development Platform 4.12.0

Best regards

When I disable Open GL this black fly is all right. It becomes transparent as it should.

Looks like we have a real bug then. I tested on my nvidia card, though, and couldn't reproduce it, which makes it really hard to fix :-(

I thought I remembered you were -- this is extra weird, since silvio can reproduce and he's on nvidia.
