2.8 Release Candidate

Thu Feb 27, 2014 8:00 pm
Still labelled as 2.8 beta3, the 2.7.9.12 is pretty close that what we hope to release next Wednesday. Compared to the .11 build, there are the following improvements:

http://heap.kogmbh.net/downloads/krita_x64_2.7.9.12.msi
http://heap.kogmbh.net/downloads/krita_x86_2.7.9.12.msi

The XP package is being built and will be available later on.

* Fix saving compositions (BUG:331310)
* New erase toggle icon
* Fix a memory leak when using the brightness/contrast curve (BUG:330479)
* Save resolution info to OpenRaster files (BUG:321106)
* Make handling custom input profiles more robust, also when updating (this should be the first 2.7.9.x release where you shouldn't need to remove the input settings folder)
* add a reset button to the input profile editor
* Fix wraparound mode for the selection painting tools
* Crop selection masks when activating the wraparound mode (BUG:330372)
* Fix painting the cursor outline when there is no cursor outline (BUG:330570)
* Make painting on high bit depth images much faste when the OpenGL canvas is enabled (BUG:331347)
* Fix updates of the canvas rulers (BUG:330129)
* Fix moving of a selection out of a layer (BUG:324373)
* Fix saving indexed PNG files with current versions of libpng
* Update to the latest G'Mic version and enable the G'Mic plugin on windows
* Make the G'Mic dialog resize when selecting a filter (fixes layout issues)
* Add a crash handler for Windows that uploads minidumps (the website that goes with it is not done yet!) and offers a clean restart

I got it installed, so far so good.
I had a bit of weird behavior when it comes to using right click pop up menu but nothing really tragic. Its just not rock solid - sometimes I am choosing color from the last used ones, and it is choosing it but is not disappearing. Little detail, I dont know on what this depends, sometimes it is happening, sometimes not. Like I said - overall this is not all that important at all because generally everything is working for me now. Thank you for constant improvement!

Thanks for update. I can confirm nezumi's problem with color history being stuck sometimes.

Re: 2.8 Release Candidate

For now, I am using PC on Core i5 computer with 8 GBs RAM and latest Win 8.1 system.
I am not sure whether is it newest build problem or anything else, but I will report:
-when using some brushes, there are sometimes funny things happen:
I choose "FX Image Blur" brush and it starts to behave inversely -> it sharpens area
and when picking "FX Image Sharpen" brush to use, it blurs piece of picture (unexpectedly)

BTW. shouldn't there be better mark for active (selected) brush - e.g. framed with gold square (and its name anywhere on the screen) ?

I also dream of better (larger) sets of selected brushes - bigger wheel menu or flying tabs like Corel Painter has got since ages. :)
Also I'd welcome so called "brush history" to track using some last used brushes (I know Krita has a shortcut for "last used" -> /
but it is not enough I guess).

What about other languages for UI in Krita, like Linux version has? :o

Quite a few good suggestions. As for languages, we've been trying to get that to work, but there seems to be quite a few weird things going on, and even with the official KDE on Windows installer, I cannot get apps to be translated.

Two more builds, with updated crash reporter:

http://heap.kogmbh.net/downloads/krita_x64_2.7.9.13.msi
http://heap.kogmbh.net/downloads/krita_x86_2.7.9.13.msi

And also some fixes (raindrops and oilpaint filter work in adjustment layers, find autosave files on Windows, fix loading input configurations when running a translation).

Indeed, they are on fire!
Last version works great here.

Today I opened two instances of krita and was trying to pick up color with the color picker from one instance and paint with it in the other. However, only the gradient color updated, not the foreground/ background active color. Is this intended or a bug?

Yes, that's intended. If you start Krita twice each window is it's own process and they don't communicate with eachother.

This new version is seriously fast! Very nice!

And big thanks for the return of gmic.
One question though, is there a way to preview gmic filters before applying yet?

No, no previews for g'mic filters yet. There's an even bigger limitation: g'mic doesn't respect selections either. Both are being worked on, though.

Nice to hear! Didn't thought that gmic for windows would make it for the 2.8 release. Very nice to see it there, even if it's not completely ready!

Thanks a lot boud. This seems like a great month for krita development!

Can someone confirm this bug:
- create new paint layer
- draw something on it
- select and move part of painted stuff.
I got nasty artifacts. Move tool is unusable in this way.

Works as expected here on latest build. I checked all selection modes with OpenGL on and off.

I also cannot reproduce, but the move tool did get some attention between the last build and the current one...
