Has anyone tested to see which platform runs Krita best?

I was going to try KDE Mint Linux, if that means I get get better performance out of Krita. But if it's faster under Windows, then I'll stick to Windows 8.1 on my laptop.

Thanks!

If you cannot use the opengl canvas, Linux is faster (because Qt's painting code is faster on Linux, if you use the Native render engine, if you use the raster engine, it's the same). If opengl works, it should be similar. Startup is slower on Windows, because Windows' file system is slower, though.

Thank you for your reply!

I've checked the OpenGL box in Krita's settings, saved it, and didn't get any errors. Is there a way to confirm it's actually operating in OpenGL mode?

As far as what I tested under 8.1, the engine responds more or less the same regardless of you having OpenGL on or off. The only thing that changes is UI response. As for file system speed, It's not that Windows' file system is slower, it uses more memory. A bloated modern linux distro (like Ubuntu, openSUSE, Fedora, etc.) is as slow as Windows in terms of file system speed.

I get better performance and quicker startup times on linux running on a virtual machine on the same computer
than on the windows version. (opengl turned off on the linux)

The linux version gives me better brush performance with large brushes (notably the hairy brush)

My system is a lenovo t420 4gig ram and an nvidia nvs 4200m intel i5

Aside from touch controls being activated, if you select bilinear or trilinear filtering you should see the image a lot crisper and defined if you zoom out. ;)

I have tested the latest builds under windows 7 64bit and linux mint KDE 17 with a sandy bridge core i7 2600 and the performance under linux wins hands down if you only have the integrated graphics. I have noticed that the more complex brushes have lag and delayed strokes under windows, while the same brushes seems to run smoothly under linux.
Another point in favor of the linux workspace are the thumbnails preview, that actually do exist, while I haven't found a way to previsualize .KRA files on windows.
