hello i'm using krita on win 7 and a lot of brush are really slow i don't know what are the problem
brushes like: Basic_circle_wet , basic mix, hard oval, block basic and more. wen i stroke fast the brush get behind the cursor and i have to wait for the stroke to finish i have to say is slower than photoshop, i hope this is a bug. - my system: - icore5. - geforce gts 250 1gb - 4 gig ram - 500gb hdd |

Check the tool-options. Maybe it's set to Weighted Smoothing or Stablizer. Those are to help you make smoother strokes.
Other than that, if you made the brushes super-large, Krita lags a lot. It is a 3.1 funding goal for us to improve this(we call it LOD strokes), but as said it needs funding that depends on whether we can get that funding. |

Did you turn on OpenGL? Settings->Configure Krita->Display->OpenGL.

Same here. Glad that it's not only my problem.
I use wacom cintiq companion with windows 8 and krita laggy as hell. First I thought that reason is that I installed 64bit version (that was working with almost 10 seconds spikes). But 32 bit version not really better (spikes ~3 seconds). I use canvas 4000x4000 px and I can't say that brushes really big relative to canvas. Other editors works without any delays. Well, it's not like I complain. I understand that it's kinda open source. But i get really dissapointed, because first impression of brushes and etc was really nice and I thought that might works for me. Hope someday you will fix it! |

Hm... I haven't got the cintiq companion myself -- only the hybrid companion -- but the specs of the companion should be fine, it's comparable to the laptop I'm using myself. The only difference is that this laptop is still Windows 7. But even on my Windows 8 laptops I don't see those delays.
Which version of Krita are you using? The stable 2.8 or the latest 2.9 beta? |

Hi! Stable one, downloaded from krita website. I thought to try latest beta, but then I decided that probably it will be the same. Also in my opinion, may be my issue is not about brushes, but something else. Because even when I resize screen from small window to fullscreen it makes some lags. Really dunno =( But I don't have any anti-viruses or other third person software, and I bought it recently, so there is no way I did something bad with system or hdd. |

Please, do give the beta a try -- we did a lot of work to the opengl support, the brush engines and more. There are thousands of changes compared to 2.8

Hi again! I download latest krita 2.8.91 and here is some notes:
1) In fact it really become faster. x64 build even works! Also why there is no x86 beta builds? 2) Spikes still exist. I mean when I paint fast with Basic_wet on my 4k canvas with size of 290px delay between my gesture and brush follow is about ~1-5 sec. Depends on speed. CPU load raises from 0 to 45% (70% total) while I paint. 3) I noticed that with OpenGL off it gets faster. 4) Bristle_Special_Blender (57px) raise CPU load to 65% for krita (96% Total for system). I guess problems not on GPU side. Well I guess I still can have fun with krita on small canvases, but no way to use it for seriuos things. |

Some brush engines are slower than others. Bristles_special_blender is a bristle brush engine preset, and that was can be pretty slow.
With OpenGL off faster should not be happening, especially on windows. As for the rest, we really do have some tech we want to implement for Krita that should make brushes far faster, but we'll need funding. I hope you'll give our upcoming kickstarter a glance ![]() |

There are no x86 builds because I haven't had time to make them... In any case, on an x64 system, nobody should use the x86 builds, they can handle less memory and are much slower. If opengl is slow, I strongly suspect a problem with the opengl drivers or the gpu

I testing krita since a few days and it has very nice features but the brush speed was annoying. Tested it on 2 win7 machines.
So i try if i find something that tweaks and i found a point that boost the brush speed for me. Setting the color depth from 8bit to 32bit float (both sRGB built in) gives a big boost, nearly no lags more for me. Maybe the devs change the defaults to it. |
