Hello, again! I absolutely hate having to come on here with another problem, but I don't know where else to turn.
The newest release of Krita is perfect for me, and it performs incredibly well on my system, even better than 2.8.3! It's so smooth. However, sometimes when I start up 2.9.4.3, it uses up 60% CPU just sitting there doing nothing, and this causes nasty performance issues while using the program. This seems rather random, as I thought turning Canvas-only mode caused this, (Which also runs blazing fast, I might add, I'm in love with that mode.) though it doesn't matter if I've used it or not during that session. Any idea what's going on? I really want to finally upgrade to 2.9, (Had to wait for performance-related kinks to be ironed out in early releases.) and it works like a dream otherwise, so this issue is disheartening. I use Windows 8.1, (Waiting to build a desktop to use Ubuntu again.) on a recent ASUS laptop with almost entirely Intel hardware. I'm using the 64-bit build from the ZIP. I tried installing Krita from the MSI as well, and the problem still persisted there too, so I had to downgrade my Krita install back to 2.8.3, which thankfully still runs. |

Hey Luran,
It's alright, while we do like seeing people do cool stuff with the program more, this forum IS for helpdesking. Could you take a look at this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344968 Do you think it might be related? (I have had this bug pop up with just changing tags) Otherwise, could you give us you current system specs? |

Could it be the autosave kicking in, maybe? Not that that's any different from 2.8...

I have autosaves disabled, so that can't be it. It caused me occasional delays and hiccups on 2.8.3, so I turned it off.
That's true, this is a forum for helping. I tend to worry about annoying people, I don't know why. ![]() I'm thinking it could be related. When I started up 2.9 a moment ago, it had the same CPU usage as before, and the right panel was fully stretched out for some reason. (Making the color wheel and such huge.) Then, I resized the right panel of tools back its minimum horizontal size where I normally keep it, but the CPU spikes stayed the same. However, I happened to try something else, and I'm honestly laughing right now! Any time I go to the brush dialog, the CPU usage slowly drops to 0% in three seconds! If I start Krita up without the brush dialog open, instead of the layers or reference docker, its usage spikes out of control until I open the brush dialog for the first time. I have reproduced this effect with five restarts of Krita to be sure, and it's currently sitting at 0% CPU usage while I type this! I wonder what could be causing Krita to act like this without loading the brushes first? I imagine this would be easy to miss, because my setup uses lots of tabs, (Like this.) whereas any of the devs or most users with bigger screens would have a dedicated spot for the brushes, or prefer to keep it open versus other tabs. I'll be keeping an eye on this after longer sessions of use before calling this resolved, just to be sure. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Thera! I was at a loss to discern what could be triggering it, and that bug report helped me root it out. |

After two lengthy drawing sessions, and leaving Krita running in the background while doing other tasks, the CPU spikes are by no means random. It's staying stable and fast! Should I report this issue to the bug tracker, for organization's sake?
So I'm calling this one solved, thanks again for your help, guys. This feels so satisfying, I've finally upgraded to the new Krita! Almost don't know what to do with all these news tools, they're lovely. ![]() |
