Hi Everyone,

I was hoping for some input about Krita and the most recent Window's updates.

I am still running Windows 8 on my laptop and had Krita 2.9.6 running. My laptop had restarted and installed some critical updates this morning and after that, Krita became very buggy. Krita was running beautifully before these Windows updates that installed this morning. I would try to save a file I was working on and Krita would just lock up and stop responding. I had to go into task manager and end Krita's task. Then other bugs started to show up like brushes stopped working and editing the file I had open. Then I would try to save the file...and Krita would freeze up.

I decided to see if I could see if there was an update for Krita. I went to the website and saw that 2.9.9 was available. I didn't see much information about updating current software. So, I opted to uninstall the 2.9.6 version I had and installed the 2.9.9 version. That was worse....and Krita was more or less barely usable. It seemed to have uploaded past settings from the previous versions....because a brush bundle I had downloaded earlier and used on the version I uninstalled was there on the new version. The brushes seemed glitchy and when I tried to save the image/file again...Krita froze and began unresponsive again.

I did a system restore to before the Window's update. I uninstalled the 2.9.6 version that was back on the pre-11/12/15 update version. I don't think that version was viable since I already uninstalled it before the restore. So, that's where I am currently. I'm installing the 2.9.9 right now....and I'm hoping that everything goes back to working again.

My question is....these windows updates where labeled "critical." What should I be doing to keep Krita from freaking out again if I really do need to install them in order for things to run correctly with windows?

Okay....the brush bundle I installed with the previous version of Krita was also installed with 2.9.9. I made them inactive in manage resources...and hopefully, that will help with making Krita more stable. How does one uninstall brush bundles?

I was able to draw a little bit and save with brushes that came with Krita. I didn't push my luck and do lots of edits just yet.

But my question still stands, I may need to install these critical updates with Windows. How do I keep Krita working like I should if I do need to install them??

Thanks

Inactive is effectively the same thing as uninstalled. You can delete them if you 'open the resources folder' and go into 'bundles' to delete the bundle.

I would reset krita configuration if I were you: https://userbase.kde.org/Krita/Manual/F ... figuration

Thanks a bunch, I'll try reconfiguring Krita and see if that helps. And thanks for the info on the brush bundles. Could a brush bundle make Krita more unstable? Or, was that coincidental?

Thanks again!

Never mind....I just found on another thread in here how to delete the kritarc file. I'll see if that works instead for reconfiguring Krita.

Ugh....still having the same problems. Krita keeps glitching with brushes....it can't save stuff....and then it locks up and then I have to end Krita.

The glitch with the brush... don't know why that transparent box shows up along side of what I've drawn.

Then I try to save it as Krita file:

Then if I try to save it as a JPG....it just locks up:

Can someone please help me because I'm actually using this for a work project and up until yesterday, everything seemed to work fine. Now....I can't finish my project.

You could try turning off OpenGL under settings->configure Krita->display.

I think your graphics card drivers were updated and are now bugged for openGL.

Still has problems saving files....I'm still getting that it can't save. I just tried to "Select Opaque" before the save....and it won't select anything either in a krita file.

On the upside....the glitches with the brushes seems to has fixed itself after I turned the OpenGL off. But....other large issues remain. This is frustrating...

Does the same thing happen if you try saving to a USB stick?

Do you have progress reporting on under settings->configure Krita->performance? Because that should show if Krita's still busy with something, and it can't save if it's thinking.

I do have progress reporting on in the settings. But....it shouldn't take minutes to save a jpg, correct?

And what I mean by can't save, I get this pop up when I hit ctrl-S or Save in the menu. I can't even select where to save it to:

I have not tried to save my files to a USB because I've never needed to do that. I have not had any saving issues or other issues with Krita until yesterday with the windows updates. I'll attempt to save something on a USB if it will allow me to do so and see if that does anything to fix problems.
