I uninstalled the program and tried to reinstall but it failed.
I searched for every Krita reference on the drive and deleted everything and then did the same in the registry and rebooted (cold boot) and it still failed on installation. I am kind of at a loss what to do at this point. I have a file to attach but don't see an attach button. I have tried IMG and URL and this shows the picture I put on Pinterest.com, at least for me: http://41.media.tumblr.com/b45d8fe6f378621862435d0221866182/tumblr_nz9x1zEFt61uge8cao1_1280.png Sorry I am so ignorant about how this forum works. Can anyone help? I have also tried to install onto another drive and no luck. I tried to go back a version and it tells me the same thing, that it cannot be installed because the older version cannot be removed! Please, can anyone help? Update: I went back to an earlier restore point with 2.9.9 (git 37acd3c) showing up now. it "works" but the bar in the brush presets window does not work so i cannot scroll up or down my brushes, instead I have to increase the height and width to see the brushes or do searches. I have not tried to uninstall this one again and install the new version, kind of scared to do so to be honest as I have some kind of important work to do but I like to keep up to the latest version. I know it is late here and it is not the right time in Europe so I am going to leave this alone for now, try to work with it and see if I ``an at least finish some of what I need to do. Let me know if you need additional information but honestly, all I did was uninstall, download the new .msi and install it or try to anyway and boom; things kind of went downhill. Note: All work is being done with administrator privileges. After reading some other posts here is additional info on my machine: OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home Version 10.0.10240 Build 10240 System Model XPS 8700 System Type x64-based PC System SKU 0x05B7 Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4440 CPU @ 3.10GHz, 3101 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. I can't say much about windows 10, but you can get zipped versions of Krita on files.kde.org if you're in a hurry. This does require a certain dll file to be present that you can download from the microsoft website, but just unzip the file and run krita from the bin folder.

Good day,
Several iterations later I am simply going to say thank you, completely delete Krita from my machine and probably go buy Illustrator. Thanks anyway, One more potential customer lost for what it is worth. |

I am not quite sure what you are going to do with Illustrator: It's a vector program. I do not own windows 10, and windows installation procedures are very complicated, so I didn't dare offering a fix other than a workaround, for that could've broken your computer. I am sorry I have insulted you with this ![]() |

Well, in the first place, Krita and Illustrator aren't the same thing, Krita is a raster graphics application, Illustrator does vectors... In any case, if hundreds of thousands of people manage to install Krita on their Windows systems, and you don't, what is the most logical thing? That Krita is broken, or that you broke your Windows system? I'm pretty sure it's your Windows system, and how can we debug that remotely? How much did you pay us again to debug that for you?
And you could, you know, just have followed Therahedwig's suggestion and downloaded the zip file, not the msi. You talk about "iterations" but you don't actually tell us whether you gave that option a try... I suspect you didn't, though. Get the zip from http://files.kde.org/krita/windows, unpack it, double click on krita.exe in the bin folder and see if that works. You don't need to do anything as administrator for that (which is dangerous) and it's completely independent of whether the Windows installer system broke down on your Windows installation, so it should work. |
