Krita 3.1 slower than 3.0?

Wed Jan 04, 2017 3:31 pm
Hi there,

I worked now a long time with Krita 3.0 and just updated to 3.1 now. I noticed the brush feels somehow "slow", even with this new fast brush engine. I don't know how I should discribe it. I reinstalled 3.0 again to compare it. In 3.0 the brush feels much more faster and precise. I tried it with the Steam-version and the free Desktop-version. It's always the same.
3.1 is somehow slower than 3.0.

Just to make sure it's not just my feel, is there someone else who noticed this?

My system:
Wacom Cintiq 21UX + one other Screen
Intel i7 4960X @ 3,6Ghz, 32GB RAM
AMD HD7850

Hm... the only thing we did was upgrade the canvas to openGL 3.0...

What could be interesting is if you can go to the performance tab and toggle 'openGL logging' and 'performance/brush logs', restart Krita and make a few examples with both. The brush logs might be tricky to find though. Then, at the very least, we can quantify your gut feeling :P

Might also be that trying to see if there's driver updates might help, but if that doesn't work, checking the logging will give us something at the least.

Ok, I created some log files with both versions. I hope I did everything right. I used the Steam versions.
Just tell me If you need anything else. :)

I updated my AMD driver some weeks ago. The installed version is 16.12.1

When you say it's slower, do you mean it's more sluggish (i.e. not smooth and fluid) or that there is a huge latency (i.e. delay) in any sense?

Are you using the stabilizer?

Yes, I am using the stabilizers for drawing but that is not the problem. I also disabled them for a while to test both versions. It's not smooth and fluid. It feels like someone limited the FPS to 20.
