Hi,

I've made test, added 10 filter layers (curves) on 3200x1400 16bit canvas and tried to paint. It seems or something in my system is wrong or filter layers are slow but with 10 of them I need about 10 seconds to refresh canvas when switching bottom filter layer and about 1 second to get preview of brush after click. Also after switching filter layers on and off there are visible tiles while refreshing. I've tried to do that in PS and I get almost instant preview, it is even possible to draw.
I've got i7 4770k with old HD7750 card. Can I make filter layers faster?

Best regs.

Short answer: no. Longer answer: if your image constructions permits it, put the filter layers in a group with the layers on which they should act.

If your image needs ten filter layers on top of all your paint layers, you will have to disable them while painting, that is always going to be slow, because first every pixel of your paint layers will be composed, and then the pixel will be filtered ten times before you get to the end result. If the filtered layers are in groups, then only if something inside the group, underneath the filter layer, changes the filter runs.

Every application has its performance limitations, even photoshop, which is why when browsing photoshop forums, there are plenty of questions like this, but about photoshop... The same goes for every other graphics application. You have to learn how the application works, and then work within those limitations, I'm afraid.

Thank you. Grouping layer with filter layers/filter mask has really made difference, like that layer is displayed already "filtered" when turning on and off - that's great. Sorry to compare to PS.
