Krita not making marks in drawing area until i switch brush

I am using windows 7 on a laptop. I am also using an intuos 4 xl (wacom tablet). Using version 3.1.2.

I thought at first that Krita was not working at all, so i was playing around with it for a while. When I would change brushes, filters or sometimes add layers it was like the marks were there, but they just didn't show up until I switched brushes. Sort of like the screen had to refresh (only way I can describe it) for it to show what I had drawn

I tried changing the language to see if that would help (it sounded silly but i read it on a forum somewhere), and made sure I was on a paint layer and not a vector layer (or other type layer)

Also this is a fresh install of Krita (just downloaded it tonight). Also the touchpad gives me the same results as the tablet (ie when i just use the touchpad, no marks are made but still show after i switch brushes)

If anyone has any ideas I would welcome the advice and help.

I am not sure that this is relevant but I do use photoshop without issue. Krita has nicer and more interesting brushes from what I have seen on videos.

Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure it's this:

https://docs.krita.org/KritaFAQ#Krita_s ... _Intel_GPU . (Summary: disable opengl)

What is your exact version of Windows, exact brand and model of computer, the model of the GPU and the version of the driver? We're trying to figure what combination is broken, because none of our own test systems (and I personally have four windows systems to test with) are broken.

Hello!!
I am quite new to drawing on a desktop so I am not sure if I am doing the right thing.
I am in a similar situation but I have Windows 10. When I draw I can't see where the pen is on the canvas and I have to change layers or pen etc.
I tried going to the link you sent but I don't know what to do there.
Sorry if it's any inconvenience.

a) try to update your intel display driver: it is very likely outdated and broken. This can be a bit tricky, though.
b) in the meantime, start krita, go to the settings menu, select configure Krita, select the display page and uncheck the checkbox that says "opengl"

I had this problem too. By upgrading to the latest Wacom Intous driver the problem is over.

Please, I have the same problem using version 3.3.1 and windows 10.
I doubt that it has anything to do with the wacom version or the laptop power\configuration because we installed the SW for the first time 3 days ago and it worked perfectly well. I am a total beginner (dont know anything...) and I suspect that while trying to figure out what's what, I just "ruined" the settings unknowingly.

I tried to follow this recommendation :
in the meantime, start krita, go to the settings menu, select configure Krita, select the display page and uncheck the checkbox that says "opengl"
but surprise - no "opengl" checkbox. Instead, there is a drop down with 3 options, the first being "auto opengl" - that's how it is configured now - and 2 others...

Also tried this: "Update to Krita 3.3 or later: Go to Settings/Configure Krita/Display, change Renderer to ANGLE and restart Krita. If this doesn't work, disable Canvas Graphics Acceleration and please also make a bug report about it." first part didn't work and I have no idea how to "disable Canvas Graphics Acceleration"

What do I do ? :'(
thanks, Galia

Does changing the renderer to ANGLE really not work? Have you restarted Krita after changing it? The change does not take effect before restarting Krita. I'd be surprised if it doesn't because that'd be a first.

There is a checkbox directly next to "Canvas Graphics Acceleration", uncheck it to disable.

Please also provide the text obtainable from "Help"->"Show system information for bug reports" for debugging purpose.
