I have my tablet pen set to Mouse mode, as any sane person would use a tablet that is without a screen. (Pen mode is the one where you map the tablet to the full screen, and the cursor immediately teleports accordingly to wherever you touch your tablet)
But Krita uses Pen mode mapping inside the canvas area for some reason. If i set my tablet to Pen mode, Krita works okay... but that mode is just horrible without a screened tablet. Set to Mouse mode over the UI everything's fine, but reaching inside canvas boundaries the cursor disappears and reappears according to a Pen mode position, as if the canvas has been mapped to the entire tablet surface. I'm on Windows7, my tablet is a Wacom Intuos4, and Krita is the first program to give any problems like this. I tried multiple Wacom drivers, and numerous earlier versions of Krita back to the last XP release, and the exact same problem presents itself every time. AND NO, NOT A MULTIPLE SCREEN SETUP. Now what?.. |

No, nobody much puts their tablet in mouse mode, and no, that's not supported in Krita. Nobody did the work to implement that, and since very few people use it, that's not surprising.

It sounds like a very bold statement. In 20 years of digital painting, I met only artist using the Pen mode and they were not insane. I met only a single one using Mouse mode for working in 3D viewport (so, to use the tablet as a mouse). I'm interested about your sources. |

Well MY source is all the people so far that i have gathered opinions from through the years, i'm afraid it is that simple. |

Ouch, that is sad. And silly. I hear it here first that people love having their cursor jumping around all the time because they accidentally hovered a bit too away from the tablet surface. Kind of a deal breaker for me, pity. |

keep your pen mode, go to settings and remove you cursor shape and outline. at least you won't see it moving while your pen don't touch your tablet

Given that Krita has more than a million users, and that this gets asked about once a year, I know it's that simple: nearly nobody uses mouse mode or wants to use it. You're letting your confirmation bias mislead you. |

I'm curious to see how you can draw in mouse mode, do you have any video? you have to reach the point where you want to start a line before every stroke? it sounds weird for me...

Although this post was 3 years ago, trying my luck still.
I'm having the same problem, i personally find mouse mode easier than pen mode, as i find it more comfortable, rather than having the cursor snapping to different parts of the screen. Personal opinion though. But did anyone actually answer how to change krita from pen mode to mouse mode? |

And we've still not implemented it, and still don't have plans to implement it.

Well, that sucks. I have to use mouse mode as the tabled is small and my screen is huge.
It's impossible to draw without it. The only way I get any degree of accuracy is to use mouse mode. I don't think you need to implement anything special as before installing the tablet drivers it was working fine just without pressure detection and Ive seen online drawing applications running in a web browser that can detect pressure sensitivity without anything being done or any drivers installed. Just installed my drivers hoping to get krita to detect pressure but now its unusable because it actually detects it as a pen now lol. |

Yeah I really need this.
I know some people think its silly but to me not using mouse mode is silly. My screen is massive my pen tablet is small. Using screen mapping is insainly difficult and uncomfortable to draw but mouse mode is easy and accurate. So far the only work around is to completely uninstall you Wacom drivers every time you want to use Krita so it doesnt detect its a pen. Means you loose some other features tho so its loose loose. |

Sorry, it's still not planned. We've got our hands full already! So, if someone really needs this, there really is no other option than to get the source code, implement the feature and submit a merge request. We'd gladly accept one.

I too would like to have mouse mode implemented. One of the biggest reasons are for the health of my hands and arms. Mouse mode is much less straining to use on both a large tablet. Oftentimes I have the keyboard resting on the top part of a large tablet and this works in basically all applications. In Pen mode I have no where to put the keyboard when I'm working with the tablet on my lap. Pen mode is also tiresome to work with when you have to move the pen all over the large surface area. Mouse mode is much much more comfortable and less training on my arms hand hands.
I understand this is not the default setup mode of tablets and thus many users never discover this mode of working, I also know there is a finite time and resources of a developer but I can't stop wondering if it's really that difficult and time consuming to properly implement the ability to read the pens mouse coordinates in mouse mode. Also, if your survey once a year asks if someone is using mouse mode and your application doesn't support it then there will naturally be very few users left who didn't immediately stopped using Krita upon opening the app and realizing it doesn't work properly. So there might be a bias in the data gathered and at least a few lost users. |

I also couldn't believe Krita doesn't have this feature. The only way to make mouse tracking work is to switch Tablet Input API from "WinTab" to "Windows 8+ Pointer input" (Krita settings/Tablet settings). However you will loose pressure detection.
