OpenGL brush stroke lag

Thu Dec 13, 2018 9:18 am
Hi.
First of all I just want to say Thank you so much for such an amazing Software!
I've been using photoshop for almost 10 years now, and after I trying Krita it was amazing
to see another software that works as well and even better than photoshop in some areas!
And I especially like the speed of the software. It is blazing fast. So I am currently trying to
switch over to using Krita entirely. But I have one big issue.

When I have Canvas graphics acceleration turned on. The first stroke that i make has what it seems like a "lag" (the stroke stutters, i dont know if the technical term is lag or fps drop. Anyhow, the first stroke is slow).
The lag exists for about half a second. And then the strokes goes smooth again.
If i make 20 different fast strokes in a row. The first stroke will have this lag. But then all the rest 19 strokes will be smooth.
If i make 20 different strokes, but I wait aprox 1 second between each stroke, then every stroke will have this lag.
So it seems like whenever i make a new stroke after waiting for a while i will get this lag.

This lag will dissapear when I turn off canvas graphics acceleration.
I have tried changing all the parameters related to canvas graphics acceleration. But nothing works.
The only solution is to turn off canvas graphics acceleration. But this is an option for me, because if i do this, it is extremly
slow to rotate the canvas, a feature that I use a lot.

I have Intel xeon 2.2 ghz computer. With windows 10, 64 bit. 64gb Ram.
Graphics card: Nvidia geforce gtx 1060 6gb. (I have the latest drivers installed)

All of us artists at our office (30 people) has Krita installed. And this issue is present in every computer (We all have similar computer setups)
We dont see this issue in photoshop or other drawing applications, only krita.
I've seen that other people online seem to have similar issues. And I think it seems related to Nvidia graphics cards.
I had the same issue at home, but at home I solved it by installing the latest graphics card drivers. But that issue did not solve it here at work.
It would be amazing if you could please spend some time to try to figure this issue out.
If you need anything more to help problem solve this issue, let me know and I can give it to you.

But other than that, thanks for such an amazing program! Have a great week. >:D ^-^ ;D xD

Um, the only way I've heard people experiencing a problem with the first stroke is the Wacom double-click setting problem: https://docs.krita.org/en/user_manual/d ... s-of-lines -- not something related to OpenGL. Does it also happen if you set canvas acceleration to Angle instead of plain OpenGL (or the other way around...)? And which version of Krita are you actually using?

Hi. Thanks for the amazingly fast reply! !

Now that I tried to use Angle instead of Plain OpenGL it seems to work.! Thank you so much. This solution works perfectly for us at the office!.

We are using Krita 4.1.3 (I've asked the administrator at the office if I could have an upgrade to the latest krita version)
If you are interested, when they upgrade to latest Krita version, I can see if the issue still exists with OpenGL.
And if the issue still exists for OpenGL. I can try to do a video capture of the issue if you want to look into it.
But thats just if you are interested in looking into the issue, if not, then using Angle solves the problem for us.
Cheers, /S =) ^-^

It's probably an issue with the opengl driver -- on Windows, directx drivers tend to be much, much less buggy. Only the opengl drivers for nvidia quadro cards tend to be good enough. Glad to hear that Windragon's work on making it possible to use Angle keeps paying off :-)
