Well as you all (maybe) know we're talking about porting icons to KDE from GTK. Now thats all fine and dandy, there are a few icon theme designers from GTK lining up for it - but the issue is that they feel a tad skeptical perhaps and may need some help in the coming weeks. Now we are all tied up with several projects and we're wondering if anyone here feel confident helping out porting icons to KDE?

What is needed to do this is:
1) Some secrecy. It would be fun to have the specific themes kept secret until everyone is confident its working smooth (so mail will be used instead of forums)
2) Cooperation with a Non-KDE designer. So some grace and kindness, enough and maybe we can get them over to the Blue Side of things in the end?
3) If push comes to shove finding alternative KDE icon sets that match up to cover the "empty spaces"
4) Know-how on how to port (there are some helpers to that but the more you know, the better)

If there are more than one who want to help KDE in this very real and practical way, either you take one theme each or cooperate. Remember that the icon designer has the last word on this so don't boss him/her around (too) much.

Sounds like an interesting project. I'm a terrible artist so I would be of no use. So far, my favorite icon theme to use for KDE is oxyfaenza though. If enough other people agree, perhaps you guys could look there for inspiration?

Ah the issue here isn't what to choose as an icon theme but to help developers of icon themes to port their already existing icon themes to KDE. The reason being that there are very few icon themes for KDE in comparison with GTK and it would help a lot of icon designers who have said they would like to port it could get help doing so.

The new icon theme is underway though - although that is in itself a huge project so with a little luck it will be available to roll out in part for the June release of Plasma.
