I had the same doubt of @colormar if the hand draw look is intentional or not. A polished and more straight look could balance the informality of the pig (I think we need some level of formality because is a financial manager).

That honors me, thank you! :)

Also, you are right, the hand-drown logo was just the draft. I hoped you could help me making it better, lcashappy — in particular as I just recombined your ideas. If you want I could try it as well on the weekend. In that case, could you upload a vector version of your beautiful piggy bank?

The piggy and other assets that I used in the splash screens are here. Maybe I'll be offline in the next couple days so, if you need more stuffs, look in the folder where are the files of what I posted here. Good work! ;)

Here are vectorized versions of my idea:

For further discussion let's number them from left to right, 1 to 4. I would love to hear your comments.

I like piggy 3, and 4, in that order.

Hi,

Today I've read this VDG post which reminded me of this thread. As I've said here I would really like to start committing this work to KMyMoney since I really like it. Unfortunately somehow the activity around it "cooled down" (I know about this poll).

I would like that we could somehow wrap up the new design since I expect that we will have a new release by the end of this year. We need a new release that will be the base of KDE4 support and a new release which will be based on KF5. I would like these to contain the new artwork and since I'm a developer I don't know of a better way to contribute to this than to start adding what is already created to the repository.

If we don't start doing this I'm afraid that we will be left with the unfinished job and I prefer using the new artwork even if it's not polished since it's better than the old one and by using it I think that the drive to improve it will be stronger.

I agree with you. Should we make list of todos and solve the problem step by step? This thread contains a lot of good ideas but they are really unordered.

That would be great. I'd love to have start and financial summary pages like the ones proposed.

To keep this going I identified four task which are done in this thread:

  • A new icon (now discussed elsewhere). The first suggestion was made on page 2, other important contributions are on page 4 and again page 4.
  • A new home screen. Recent suggestions are on page 7. The first suggestion is on page 5. Hei Ku is working on this task.
  • A new splash screen. See page 8.
  • KMyMoney text icon. I do not know if the name is correct. But you'll find it on page 8. The first suggestion was made on page 3.

Hi there,

I'm just a regular user who knows nothing about graphics, but since I've just updated from 4.6.3 to 4.6.90, I'd like to share a few thoughts.

The home screen shown here (viewtopic.php?f=285&t=119635&start=60#p305295) looks awesome, but some of the things I didn't really like from the update I've just experienced can be seen there (although they are not really about the home screen). I'm all in for cleaner icons and all, but I think some of the side and top icons no longer differentiate the tasks they perform, so I'm relying on text only now. For example, if you check the side icons on the home screen above, you'll see that differences between 'Accounts', 'Categories', 'Tags' and 'Ledgers' are not much pronounced. The same applies to top icons such as 'New account', 'Open ledger', 'Edit account' and 'Update'.

I did like other new icons, such as Forecast, Reports, Investments, Institutions. Only the ones I list, in my opinion, are too similar to actually be functional in terms of differentiation.

By the way, these really look cool: viewtopic.php?f=285&t=119635&start=75#p307106 8)

Well, just my 2 cents. Many thanks for the great job you do here!

Ok, but icons were specifically left out because of 2 issues:
1) Icons are being revamped, KDE-wide. Whatever comes after Oxygen is what we will use

2) We use over 40 different icons. It's a daunting task on its own.

Having failed twice already at making an artwork change, it was a conscious decision to leave the icons out this time.

The change you see from 4.6 to git master is just using icons which were designed years ago by the Oxygen designers

Point taken, though. The overlay of a small icon for different features doesn't work and we'll have to think something different. Even more important to take into if the next icons are monochrome.
