It would be great to have a final round with all the elements in place.

The icon (coin with gear on the left), the name (with the yellow K) and the start up and financial summary (no integrated title, and with the updated icon).
To see it all in place would help us find any missing items or glitches, IMHO.

Here is the progress we made until now with the update icon.

A concern about the bill pictures.
They are small, cover very little of the bill, and have the dots on top.
Is that enough to keep us out of legal troubles, or should we run a sketch filter of some sort on them to be sure?

Hum, I don't know the legal implications. I think it's fair use.
For the euro bills it seems ok.

8) The home page is really awesome! It's a pity that you can see it only on the first start. Can we put the artwork into the summary page as well? It needs more attention.

If you look at the K in the logo, there is gap between the vertical line and the two wings (if |< is the K, it's | gap <). In my opinion this looks unintended and ugly. I think the "<" part should be moved left (tried and liked it…).

I think the horizontal lines (=) look cheap. I think a small modification could change that — it's like a soup without salt, the special something is missing. Unfortunately I don't have a concrete idea. Did you think about sloping the lines (like in the euro symbol? [details on wikipedia])

If I see the logo ("KMyMoney" with the chart-like line), it looks forced to me. Also it separates the K in a way which can make a user incorrectly think it is not part of the name, making it "MyMoney". Therefore I would prefer not to use the colored K with double lines and a normal K instead. To make it more notable we could place the icon to the left of the logo.

Thank you for your great work. I'm impressed by the awesome home page!

I think the home page looks really awesome! :)

Especially the summary page's header but also the totals in the table headers are somewhat too big.
They steal a lot of vertical screen space for no reason.
This is fine on a large screen, but laptop's with 16:9 screens won't like this layout very much.

I agree about the home page - it's impressive. So too is the financial summary, it wouldn't be out of place in a glossy company report to shareholders.

I've had misgivings before about this. The 'K' doesn't really look like a 'K'. It's more like an 'or' symbol with a less than. The < would be better overlapping the | not just touching it.

To me the problem is the length of the = part of the K. If the right side were shortened not to protrude, that would allow the K to be moved closer to the "MyMoney" to integrate better.

Thank you for your great work. I'm impressed by the awesome home page!

Agreed, really smart - just very minor tweaking to finish it off.

Thanks for the feedback!
(The bunch of people above are from the KMyMoney community)

I agree with aga about the length of the = lines and moving the < to the left , that might be an improvement.

We forgot about the splash screen. Good thing Marko remember about it.

Here is the current version.
Image

It is gray, with an alpha, which is overimposed on the highlight color of the KDE theme, to blend with the user's theme.

That's how most of the elements are handled in the start page and the financial summary, btw.

Just thinking; we could make KMyMoney so fast that the splash screen becomes unnecessary :).

Make it faster and I'll find a new report/calculation that makes the splash screen necessary. This isn't lxde, we use the additional power when we have it available. :D

Very nice feedback! I drew the suggestions so we can visualize it. The K letter is really better. I made some modifications on the logo to smooth the impression that is "MyMoney".

Here's the summary page with smaller headers and the home page's background. Personally, I prefere the old one because it's cleaner.

About the splash screen. Before start to do it I need to know if it accepts transparency (like Adobe CS5 splash screens) and if it can be a gif image with animation (like mobile Skype)?

I would like to emphasize that we have a dropbox folder with the images and svgs that I posted here. Specifically, I made one svg with the icon, the logo and the background with the bills. Feel free to use it the way you want. Thus, I hope, at least for the splash screen, we have many different proposals.

The splash screen is a png file. It does have an alpha channel to handle transparency.

We have the gray version with an alpha, we apply the default theme color (light blue in my case) and then it looks like this.

The new versions of the name look really better. I like the first one of the new versions.

The last line is dynamic, that's done programmaticaly while loading the program. The others are fixed, but each translation team will translate it, so we have to provide the svg.

My question about transparency is if I have a 100% transparent pixel I can see the windows behind it. This way is possible to have non rectangular shapes and drop shadows like CS5 splash screens.
