So started doing suggestion for Places: Just slapped one SVG onto another and grouped them, then exported as PNG's so we could all see them here in the forum

Folder, Download
Image

Folder, Image
Image

Folder, Public
Image

As a weird idea given that the color of them is monochrome, should we try the decorative parts in like 60% opacity instead?

Here are 4 sketches for the folder-sound icon:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9IiroU4JXE5NUFqcGxsaVFvSFk/edit?usp=sharing

I merged folder and sound (resp. headphones) icon from the existing font. Comments and advises are welcome!

I´d prefer sketch 1 or 3. Although number three needs some rework. I feel like there is an optical illusion when quickly looking at it (then it looks like a circle for a moment) - but maybe that´s only due to actual time and I should go to bed ;)

Hahaha brilliant! Ok I say 1! Remember to write up your Forum name in the spreadsheet so people know you're on it! :D

Also I would make the Note symbol a little bit smaller giving it some room inside the folder.

Suggestion for sync icon: https://www.iconfinder.com/icons/216096 ... n#size=128
Image

Sync folders would just be embedding this to the folder shape. :-)

Ok Kdeuserk, lets go with that (this is kinda fun in it's anarchic and wild kind of way)
(Do you know how to use inkscape to combine the two? If not, just say and I will do a fast screen capture video of how its done if you want to - the more who know how the faster this will go :) )

So should we go with Black folders or White (hollow) ones? At first I was all for the hollow ones, but now I'm wavering...

Jens: Yeah I think I can do that. Where is the folder shape? :D

I think white folders would be better. All black ones would be a bit intense at large sizes.

https://www.iconfinder.com/icons/213050 ... n#size=128 or https://www.iconfinder.com/icons/213181 ... n#size=128

Remember to write yourself up in the spreadsheet. :)

Oh and this goes out to everyone: if you need help with inkscape just ask. We're all here together and the more who feel comfortable working on it the better.

Ok should we go with Davids suggestion everyone? "White" folders?

Actually imho black folder with the white Download symbol etc. looks better.
So I would go for http://ubuntuone.com/1gFO1hCt5LCkGoML8PdFVL.
This would be my folder-sync icon:
Image compared to Image

I think the white variant could be a bit inconsistent, but I am not sure.

Image it also filled and not only in a circle.

You mean like so: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9IiroU4JXE5NzVfeWw3dmsxalU?

The black folders look a bit too intense for me also, so I prefer the white ones.

I don't know why not Kdeuserk? :)

I mean the issue would be that at one point someone will have to sit down and pick one of them (since both would be weird) or we could branch if off as a "black folder variant" and a "white folder variant" maybe?

Lets do both for now, there aren't that many folder icons.

Oh but when you do the black folders remember to not fill the symbol with white but instead exclude it from the folder - since Plasma Next will probably have icons that follow the text color from the color theme - they have to use only ONE color (black).

Wonderful! Mark them up Donkr (link to the SVG in the spreadsheet and keep your name in the "By" column)

Should we set up some kind of KDE-Launchpage for this? With the hows and the why's in it? (oh and btw this is soooo going in the Monday Report in the VDG blog - its inspiring. I know it may sound cheesy but this right here is so cool!)

Ok I gotta get to bed - please keep editing and adding stuff this is brilliant! :D

Quick hand sketch what just came to my mind:
Image

Sorry this may look childish, but idea behind is to make the top a bit flatter and to make the folder character more obvious.
I am just too tired to do it properly now.
