I've managed to wrap my head around how to package icon themes (at least I think I have anyway! :) ) So tomorrow I will begin to transfer these into the appropriate folders. As it stands I will only be able to merge the existing SVGs, and not the ones you guys have modified. Does everybody have a github account? If so I could put this on github and then you can upload your modified ones and we can begin merging all the icons into it?

I have also exercised the little programming knowledge I have to write a python program that extracts the file names from all files in a folder. I hope to be able to expand this program to compare two lists of file names so we can easily keep keep track of what we have added and what we are missing.

One thing I wanted to note: While the awesome icons are a good point to start, I would prefer to change a few icons, like
https://www.iconfinder.com/icons/212968 ... n#size=128
to
https://www.iconfinder.com/icons/198127 ... n#size=128

In pictures:

Image to something like Image or Image

(Note: The latter is not free to use, so we should redo it on our own.)

davidwright: If you create the icon set, please to remember to also convert to bright svg's. We need to ship our icon set with both, bright and dark icons, to be readable with every color scheme.
How it is technically implemented that applications choose the correct ones depending on the color scheme is another issue.
If we really want to make viewtopic.php?f=285&t=120006 happen it will be (and already is) implemented in the code of the sidebar anyway.
For applications not supporting monochrome icons depending on the color scheme like gtk applications, this can be handled by the System Settings Color module, to automatically rename the monochrome icons, so that the name that will be called by the gtk applications will be of the right color (e.g. if you choose a dark color scheme, then "align-horizontal-center-bright" will be renamed to "align-horizontal-center", which will be the name the gtk application is looking for (as those will only look for one icon name.)

I'm almost done with the folder icons (only the white ones for now) - I think I may have missed the ball on HTML (there was an icon with tags that I missed and instead I used the HTML5 logo ... I think) I'll post them all here as PNG's soon. (EDIT: here they are!)

Image

Folders Remote, Folders Tar and Folders Images People is still vexing me... I'm going to work on the weather icons at the bottom now and until lunch (an hour more).

Davidwright: very good - go for it. But just so you know many of us (me :) ) aren't that handy in git so be prepared to explain it veeery slowly to us (ie "me") :)

Kdeuserk: very good idea the headphones wheren't that nice in the Awesome Font, well spotted. Ok see if you can check through the icons with headphones and add your suggestion.

Ok I didn't start with the weather I fixed the "security low" and "security high" symbols and used the "half shield" symbol from the font for "Security Medium"

Oh I also suggest that the icons LegnaVI made for Krita should be merged into the "Awesome Kommunity Icons". There is a segment called "draw-[something]" where we could win A LOT of time if his icons would be included there - plus it would make everything more coherent.

viewtopic.php?f=285&t=119794&start=15

Then secondly I suggest writing up design specs for the "AKI", just a quick set of ideas:
1) Use only ONE color, since the icons will adapt to the text color of the color scheme they should not have outlines in another color. It's not needed.
2) Stay simple. The simpler the better. Try not to use too many shapes and details but simplify the icon instead.
3) Use a combination of rounded corners and sharp corners. If a shape has only sharp corners (90 degrees or less) try to add a rounded corner to it to stay true to the overall design language. "More rounded than sharp, but not JUST rounded" is a good rule of thumb.
4) Try to reuse elements from the theme by combining them as much as possible to keep it coherent. If there simply isn't a good object to reuse then start sketching.

Jens: For the printer I would really love

(https://www.iconfinder.com/icons/183595 ... n#size=128)

or

Image

(https://www.iconfinder.com/icons/211880 ... n#size=128)

Both have licenses that should work.

https://www.iconfinder.com/icons/240267 ... n#size=128 could also be an inspiration.

What about something like:

to make the txt more clear? Otherwise it will be hard to distinguish between txt and document.

What about simply including text when necessary? HTML and TXT will have the same extension in every language, so for formats this should not be an issue.

Image or Image
The latter is from https://www.iconfinder.com/icons/169775 ... n#size=128

Great! Just edit the icons in the spreadsheet to so we have the changes committed :)

(I would have done more icons - but due to some tragic events here in Sweden I have a demonstration to go to today so I will be a bit quiet for the day)

How would like something like:

Image

or a little bit more smooth:

Image

I have uploaded the latter here: http://ubuntuone.com/72tScpp2ucj4KCdcyNoZFj

Reason behind my modification: I have some symmetry concerns with the original one, as it seems to be too heavy on the left side.
Apart from that, I wanted to make the shape more clear for smaller sizes, hence the white space.
Personally that way it looks more like a folder to me.

So how do you like this modification? Better or worse than before?
Please give honest feedback.

A first sketch for Akregator icon. I´m not sure about the glasses (alignment, form and as symbol for feed reading as well):
Image

I´ll give it tomorrow another try. Some ideas are welcome! ;)

@kdeuserk: The smoother one looks very good!

To symbolize reading. But as mentioned, I´m not happy with it. I have another idea with a screen and the feed icon, but actually not the time to sketch it. I´ll have a go at it tomorrow.

Jens et all: Just came to mind: Shouldn't we make the icons as squary as possibly? Otherwise it will look very bad in toolbars etc, if every icon has different heights...

So in case of the folder this should look like:

Please let us not continue the K-name tradition. "Awesome Kommunity Icons" hurts me just a little inside. I propose FACT (or F.A.C.T.) Font Awesome Community Theme. At last then non-KDE user will look at and think "Awesome theme, lets try that." . K-names in my opinion have a tendency to create a sense of exclusion ( oh its not for X DE) rather than just the tight branding/association most likely intended and we want as many people using/helping as possible.
