Here are my 2c about the new style.
It's ok to make the style flatter but i wouldn't completely remove shadows and gradients. Just make them a lot more subtle, otherwise we will have another monster like w8(to me it looks like w3.11 with shiny icons - oh the horror) :)
Now something more important. For me an application window(not counting popups and modal dialogs) is composed of three sections(similarly to a webpage) header/content(with optional sidebars)/footer, I really would like to see a noticeable distinction between those elements... the main issue that i have with oxygen is the lack of this distinction...
You can check my previous mockups https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/633 ... index.html (switch between "Oxygen theme" and "Mod1" - Load theme) to see what i'm talking about.

I strongly agree with keeping a balance between gradients and flat style. Extremes are always bad.
I am not sure about the distinction part though. (It will lead to inconsistencies and portability issues with gtk applications etc.).
Apart from that, it will be a pain to define those elements in the theme.
This will have to be handled in the code of the applications themselves I guess.

A new theme is coming!!! :D

The issue is this: we need C++ devs. Thats the long and the short of it. Design wise and idea wise it's all good but most devs are tied up in other work so if you know any C++ programmers who can follow design guide lines, who know the importance of resource usage, who can be positive and inclusive and who aren't scared of being a part of design work - LET ME KNOW! The more we get the faster the new widget theme that's planned will get done. :)

(The current idea is visible in the Qtcurve theme you can download from the blog (yes we will get something more easily acquired soon))

Hmm, if you're needing C++ devs, do you want us to spread the message? If you supply me with some email addresses/ways interested devs can contact you/VDS, then I could make some post in the development oriented subreddits on Reddit. It's something for a start. I guess you'll be making some announcement on the next Monday blog update.

I'm not so much of a fan of gradients that are applied over the whole window area, but I like them in the header. I too would like to see some distinction between sidebars and the content area.

Regarding better distinction: This might also be related: viewtopic.php?f=285&t=120006
In the thread the issue is more about separation of content and user interface: something visually sunk should not control something else visually sunk.
The general distinction will be very hard to achieve without code changes to the individual applications I suppose, as every Application implements panels in different ways.
