Right now, when opening a widget, it uses the sliding popups desktop effect. I find this effect to be quite dated. I propose that a different animation be created for the opening of plasma widgets. I think that a sliding animation of sorts, one that does not make the widget start at the very bottom and slide all the way to the full size, but have it start with the widget about half way open. Along with this sliding effect, a fade effect could be used so that the widget fades in while sliding open. From what I've seen of the videos of plasma-next, this effect is already sort of being used when closing widgets.
