I love to multitask at work and I usually work on few projects at the same time, so Activities are very important to me. I have an idea for Plasma Next that could make Activities switching even easier:
- Is it possible or useful to design a "popup" that would show on your screen with the name of the current activity if you switch activities by pressing the Meta + Tab? It could be in the middle of the screen, semi-transparent and you could change the transparency. This "popup" would disappear when the buttons Meta/Tab are released. I have 1 normal desktop activity with 4 desktops and 1activity/project, so this would help with the orientation. What do you think? |

Wouldn't it be necessary to have such a notification as well when you switch between workspaces, just for consistency? Personally, I don't want to see what I did right now. And a 'notification' is rather an information about events outside the current context (so you have a 'title' in mind like for screen identification).
But perhaps you will be satisfied with "The future of activity switching" as shown recently by Ivan (http://ivan.fomentgroup.org/blog/category/kde/). |

ivan is the right person to ask, I am sure he will give you a very qualified answer.
I am not sure, but his latest work already looks like what you are asking for: http://ivan.fomentgroup.org/blog/2014/0 ... switching/ EDIT: Oh sorry I read over Heikos post. |

Thank you both. This is definitely the thing I am looking for, so you can close the "topic".

You 'close' a thread by marking it as solved which adds a small check-mark to the title. |

The small popup for the workspaces currently exists, but is not enabled by default (go to System Settings -> Workspace -> Virtual Desktops -> On-Screen Display)
Something like that could be added to the activity switching, regardless of the previously linked things. |
