Hello there,
I made this image in hopes to redesign the KCM for the wallpaper changes on the desktop. I know there has been work done on it, but I still think we can push it some more. For one, I tried to keep the same unification idea that clicking the plus button will bring up a few options on where to bring wallpapers from, online, folders, etc. There is also no save button as I think it would be more intuitive to simply click the image you want and it would be added as a background. I separated the categories and also added extra controls at the bottom as a standard. For the mouse actions I simply tried to make the interaction more graphic by using the mouse image and highlighting the button that is being given an action. Beyond that, it is is up to the developers to want to add more controls for the module. I tried keeping the idea from system settings as a standard as well. Top navigation bar. As far as the colors, I am sure they can be worked out in different ways, since that is not 100% settled I am using this combination for now. I like the lack of apply button, but I think I would find it weird when using the slideshow mode. Would adding a folder refresh the wallpaper to show your changes were successful? Otherwise there would be no feedback, which seems wrong to me.
The mouse options also shouldn't use mouse icons IMO. I use plasma 5 on a laptop. |

Maybe it could change to a laptop image too? I mean, it could detect you are one one and change accordingly. |

These redesigns are very nice!
Based on some ideas of your redesign, I made one myself: Note: only for the actual wallpaper settings.

I do like what you propose here, I think it can mature some more for sure. However, I see that now putting all together on on plane would be wise only if there was a clear concise separation. The other drawback I see is that it would have to have special controls for each within the interface on the right, we can't do that on the left since it is left for navigation. Overall though, I think it can be tweaked and arranged. Once the idea matures, we can see if it makes the grade as far as usability. Please keep posting ideas on this. |

In regards to your second point, creating a slide show by selecting multiple items would be problematic. I have something like 1000 different pictures scattered in different subfolders for use as wallpapers.Windows does it so that you select a folder and you can select all to make the slideshow, but I like using some system wallpaper too, so that doesn't work. I vote for keeping the slide show option separate, or at least come up with some more robust options for it. One other feature I'd love to see is stretching one picture across multiple monitors. |

Another one could be stretching one picture across virtual desktops, similar to what Android does. |

Listing all available stuff it's only ok if there are a few in total, but some people have a lot of wallpapers and it would make difficult to go to, for example, plane color wallpapers from 300 image wallpapers. So, in the left panel there could be a navigation which jumps to a category of that list |

This would be nice! I added 'Stretch across ...' - then you can set where it will stretch (and maybe some other options) by option panel (The 'Image Background' setting would be replaced by it)
A more robust optiion would be adding folders - But not separated in a extra tab. Just some sort of 'Folder with pictures inside' element. If you select it, all pictures in the folder will be added to your slideshow. System wallpapers, colors and animations are still there to select if you want them. ![]() You could navigate into a folder and select/unselect images. ![]() And: We all should post the original file, used for creating the mockup. For example i'll upload the svg file and if somebody has some ideas, he can just change it. https://www.mediafire.com/?gun3mu3bincygj4 https://www.mediafire.com/?g5vm141qv43oqqe |

Is the plan to integrate the KCM into the system settings or will it stay like in plasma 4 where the wallpaper module can only be accessed via the desktop?
IMO right click + [desktop] settings should open the system settings with the desktop wallpaper KCM opened. This should be taken into consideration when designing the actual KCM. Because if one uses a side panel to the left, the new, revamped system settings also have the subcategories at the left hand side. So, IMO the "Image Scaling", "Image Background" and Slideshow settings should be at the top or the bottom of the KCM. I would also suggest using dropdown lists for things like Image scaling as this is more compatible with the HIG. Cheers! |

Not real sure about this idea. It seems very crowded and there is no change for the mouse actions. What would you do to include a navigation and work on when you have tons of images, colors, etc? |

Hmmm ..........
![]() Note: The slideshow 'preview' will change to '?' symbols instead of the star, spiral and rectangle if you enable shuffle. If you disable automatic slideshow, it will change to only one symbol shown. svg: https://www.mediafire.com/?vt53820ttfhi9ji |

Hi Guys,
Here's an idea I had for the wallpaper selector. I thought an accordion style of navigation might be a good choice for this. Obviously this image details the slideshow part. I have yet to do the rest. ![]() The menu could do with a little more thought. Perhaps the delete button could appear next to the sausage menu when the item is selected.
