First of all, hello from Randa 2014 spring.
I'm trying to help the kde-book group here, by revamping the kde book cover.
The boot is about framework 5 it's audience as identified this morning is mainly C++ Qt developers.

Now i'm in the process of making the new cover. Here's two drafts your recommendations feedback etc are welcome.

For the moment the cover is drafted as A5

To join me tigerfoot on irc ( on kde-promo, randa etc ...)

I think the second one looks more professional. The first one is too cluttered imho. Maybe it's just the mascots style I personally do not like as it may not look serious enough for enterprise customers, but that concern has already been raised and discussed, with the outcome that a mascot does not have to look "professional" and mascots of other products have a similar approach.

The second is the front cover and the first the back (see files names) ... So what ?

The cute dragons are nice, but what's really needed is a bit of attitude! :P

I love the fun behind this, but to be useful in the very short time frame we have the source have to bee available with a compatible licence CC-by-sa 3
Is it the case ?

Hello!

I wanted to also input something here. Something with a more sophisticated and stylized look. I hope this helps!

Hey Andi, I find your suggestion quite refreshing ...

Now I would propose the following changes ( With the rules printed material in minds )
I would use the blue stripe at the left side and so can be it extended from the front to the back including the side of it ?

I will try to make a new demo this morning and update the git repository, so everybody can contribute to the improvements.

Okay following the Andy proposal the new files will be available at
http://quickgit.kde.org/?p=scratch%2Fgarg%2Fbook.git

For anybody that want to contribute just check it out and create patches or if you have a dev access you can just push back your changes.
There's certainly lot of improvement especially the text look etc ...
Unfortunately my time is over for Randa Hack week today ...

I checked the git for those covers and I can make the changes and provide the PDFs if you want to go with what I make. The renditions on git are not good looking, to be honest. What are the book dimensions? I can change the position for those.

png are rendered at 90 dpi for quick viewing
pdf are @300 dpi
The printed book for europe will certainly be in A5 format ( the svg are setup as it, but without the printed needed margins )
For US and other non metric, I can't tell what size it will.

I don't think I have the ability to push on that GIT repo but I will email you the sources for the printer's.
