So, i've been quite bothered by the dolphin settings->configure not being last, but instead 'show toolbar' is last. i feel like this is something that should be consolidated, because if you look across all apps configure/settings is always the last menu item, show toolbar and menubar are always up further (take konversation of a good example of a good one).

i initially thought this would've been fixed since the dolphin rewrite (when they added that nice itemview stuff and the menubar being disabled by default.

but, i can only assume nobody actually noticed it or if they did, couldn't patch it.

Image

so, could we deecide and have clarification on this so me or someone else can fix it? i would prefer it to be standard across all apps on the desktop, spec doesn't seem to mention it. it's quite bothersome to me at least, because i'm assuming things are going to be static..as i'm sure most everyone else's brain is. e.g. i do not expect quit to suddenly be the 2nd to last item from the bottom, and so on for many other menu items.

Which version of Dolphin are you running? Here on my computer with Dolphin 4.13.3, "Configure Dolphin" is indeed the last entry in the "Settings" menu, like it should, "Show Toolbar" is the second one from the top.
It isn't the last entry in the button menu (when the menu bar is hidden), but unfortunately there is no standard whatsoever for those menus yet, total anarchy rules that world.

Same here (4.13.3 -> second entry).
About HIG: We have at context menu this advice: "Place the most frequently used items at the top of the menu." (The menu bar doesn't contain it). Do you think we need to go into detail? I'm afraid of too much if-then guidelines that make the HIG unclear and ambiguous. For instance: "If you have a toolbar that can be hidden, place the option at the second position when the menu bar is optional." (a little bit exaggerated ;)).

4.13.97, so even newer than yours? perhaps this is a config issue.

just tried it on my gf's newest kubuntu. that issue doesn't happen if i have 'show menu bar' enabled, on her system.

but if it's using the stock dolhpin config, and hidden by default, clicking the gear "control" has show menu bar at the bottom, above is Help ->, above is configure dolphin..and such.

indeed, having somewhat of a standard for these things would be nice.

i agree that if-then stuff can make it confusing. but unfortunately i think it's needed. or maybe examples of what should be done. e.g. do you want applications to put quit at the top? how about new tab at the bottom? of course, those are to be sorted by frequency used, it seems quite important to keep them consistent.

and in the case of mulitple apps, this indeed becomes more complicated (especially since dolphin does the 'controversial' hideable menubar thing).

Do you think that we could have something like this instead? Would it make sense?

Settings
Window Settings
- Show Menubar
- Show Toolbar
- Configure Toolbars
- Configure Shortcuts
-------------------------------
Configure Dolphin

Yes that seems quite reasonable to me. We'd have to see if there are any corner cases, and understand how it should be sorted when other items want to be added.

I added the task at the kanboard's backlog (section design).
