As you can read in preview post the arraw for the sort direction is realy confuse A-Z and Z-A would work better. Maybe we can drop the arraw, bat A-Z and Z-A would work quite well.

Yes why not. Please post as many ideas as possible. Another 2 from me:
--- 1: A ↓ Z
Z ↓ A
--- 2:
A Z
Z A

It's been almost a week since the last post and it would be good to bring a bit of closure to this thread!
jstaniek's original post questioned the suitability of these 'Sort' icons:
Personally, I think that we've come up with some better, more meaningful alternatives to in this thread. Are the above icons still the default in Breeze and what do we need to do now to test if any of the ones suggested in this thread should replace them?

I think the icons from uri will work fine, maybe one with a-z and one with z-a.

+1, I am unsure about the direction of the arrow for the ZA icon. We're sorting from Z to A here, right? How about:

Oh! Oh! I have one more suggestion if I'm not too late!
+ These are so intuitive that I don't even think I need to explain which icon sorts the smallest/first at the top, and which sorts the smallest/first at the bottom. + There's no reliance on letters or numbers or even arrows which can be interpreted. + They work as monochromes, and there's even room to put in colours if desirable. + They could even be stair pyramids:
For specialized versions, it's also possible that we could left-align or right-align the pyramids, though the middle-aligned ones work well as a general case IMO.
A "problem" with this variant is that the icons become very similar ("two letters on the left, arrow pointing down") Despite Uri not liking translucent elements, I'd seek to diminish the arrow "somehow" to clearly make the letter the dominant part of the icon and put focus on their difference.
Aside this, it might be reasonable to extend the arrow bar, so that it's not visually attached to the lower letter ("only")
remind me at first glance of the wi-fi System tray icon -
Luebking - is there any scope to make the top letter bigger and the bottom letter smaller to try & make them more readable at small sizes, If the user thinks it's to do with lists and that it's the letters 'A' & 'Z' on the icon then it's kind of irrelevant if you can read the lower letter - to me the arrow suggests that it's something to do with sorting lists and therefore it's probably 'A' & 'Z' (or is that just me?). This is what i mean:

My thought too, it's _nice_ but a bit a bit like wifi signal/3G signal level. Also the volume sign (). Nice when it stays separately, but users have their personal memory of symbols...
