Is there a reason why the RGB system is used?

I've recently started to use HSL in my CSS, and I find it to be quite nice.

http://demosthenes.info/blog/61/An-Easy-Guide-To-HSL-Color-In-CSS3 gives a good intro to HSL, and also shows how one can easily find matching and complimentary colours through it.

No reason in particular. It is just what comes by default and many graphic designers use that for their colors as well. In the example I put there, I make mention of having the ability to change the color spectrum you want to use for your color picker. So HSL is available in this example.

Heiko nudged me to comment on this topic, so here comes my 2 cents.

Some time ago (first commit was in August 2012, wow) I put together Colorpick, a color picker which I wrote about recently here: http://agateau.com/2014/colorpick/.

Anyway, the features I find useful in Colorpick which I could not find in KDE standard color picker are:
- checking the contrast of two colors
- pixel-precise, keyboard driven, picker
- copying colors to the clipboard in different text formats

Admittedly, the last two features are more geared toward designers so they may be out of scope for a generic color picker. But getting contrast information is useful for everyone IMO.
