KDE Icon themes in LibreOffice

Sat Nov 01, 2014 8:44 pm
I currently volunteer at the design team of LibreOffice and unfortunately the KDE icon themes bundled with it are quite neglected and incomplete and would appreciate any help in improving this for KDE users. LibreOffice currently ships with the Crystal and Oxygen themes, with one looking ancient and one being incomplete.

I have recently been going through the Oxygen icon set files and adding useful icons from it into LibreOffice's Oxygen theme as well as creating a few others by meshing two or more pieces from other icons. It would be great if i could get some assistance from designers who know the icon set, so that some necessary icons could be created, primarily the one i cant create - format paintbrush.

We would also like to bring the new breeze icon theme to Libreoffice, so that KDE 5 users will feel more at home. Any assistance in this matter would be highly appreciated.

First, thank you for reaching out to us. Makes me feel all fuzzy and warm inside! :D

Do you have a list somewhere of the icons names of the icons that are missing and the icons in general for the Breeze theme? That would be a great help to start with.

I'm glad that i was able to do so and that you took the time to respond.

Here is a list of the icons visible in LibreOffice's main two toolbars.

Standard Toolbar - New, Open, Save, Save As, Attach Document to Email, Edit Document, Export to PDF, Print, Print Directly, Print Preview, Cut, Copy, Paste, Format Paintbrush, Spellcheck, Automatic Spell Checking, Find, Find & Replace, Non-Printable Character, Table, Image, Chart, Footnote, Page Break, Hyperlink, Symbol, Page Number, Comment, Textbox, Shapes, Data Sources, Help

Formatting Toolbar - Styles, Bold, Italics, Underline, Strike Through, Shadow, Font Outline, Increase Font, Decrease Font, Superscript, Subscript, Font Color, Highlight Color, Background Color, Numbering List, Bullet List, Increase Indent, Decrease Indent, Left Alignment, Center Alignment, Right Alignment, Justified, Line Spacing 1, Line Spacing 1.5, Line Spacing 2, Right to Left, Left to Right, Select All

I havent gotten a chance yet to go through the breeze icon list to see which one could match up.

Please open an issue at the GitHub repository (linked by andreas_k above) with the list of icons. Breeze has some icons for Calligra which probably don't cover all your needs but should cover most of them. Also, does LO use a specific format?, size?, naming scheme? or can the icons be added to the Breeze theme and LO will pull them from there.

I've opened the issue in github. Yes i believe some of the icons used in Calligra will likely cover some of the same for LO. LO uses transparent pngs at 16x16, 24x24 and in the near future 32x32. The naming scheme is based on the internal function call name, but i do think it would be possible to create a script that would translate Breeze's naming scheme over to LO's in order to automate future changes your team makes.
