"run the associated app" icon

Sat Feb 21, 2015 5:11 pm
I just compiled and installed the Diskmonitor app and widget http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Di ... ent=168881 and the widget has a "run the associated application" icon with the std toolbox of resize, rotate and settings but the "run" icon is the expand to full screen one (a square with 4 arrows pointing to the corners). Is this icon authors choicet, the wrong icon displayed, the correct one or something else?

This is normal, you should have the same icon(s) in the toolbox of the folderview plasmoid e.g.
The actual image displayed is provided by the plasma theme.

And in the folder plasmoid it represents "open with Dolphin/KF 5", I tried changing themes and icons and those toolbox icons never changed (at least materially) - I just don't see that ion as being obviously representative of the action although I would guess its meant to indicate open something bigger (though to me its full screen), what about a small "w" (for widget) next to a big "A" (for application) or 2 somethings one small and the other larger

Yes. For a folder, Dolphin is the "associated app".

Well, most themes don't provide specific images for those icons I suppose, so the ones from the default theme are used.

Have a look at $PREFIX/share/plasma/desktop-theme/themename/configuration-icons.svg(z).

That's already been the same in KDE4 though.
Personally, I do agree that the standard icon is probably not the best choice.

There already has been some discussion about these icons some time ago:
viewtopic.php?f=285&t=123394
But this seems to have not really taken into account the actual images...

I would propose something like this as an appropriate icon, one that suggests an expansion of the functionality by clicking on it
