The idea is simple. Make the application launcher displays three options for appearance:
1. Show icon. 2. Show icon and text. 3. Show text only. Here a model of the dialog box to set this in a simple way: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_nP-b ... sp=sharing And here the result using option #2: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_nP-b ... sp=sharing Thank you very much. Regards. |

I already wondered how to achieve this.
Especially for people who are not used to computers (more precise: the people, who are maintaining their computers ) this would make everything alot easier. My parents for example really need a text saying it's a launcher or a button they can click - not all people understand "clickable images". |

I like this idea. I think we have inherited the understanding that button on the bottom left is an applications icon from other platforms. I would probably vote for this.

I honestly did not think in terms of accessibility. But what you say is fine. In fact the idea is based on doing even more configurable visual appearance of the desktop. I am one of those who love kde because it is highly configurable. Because it can be configured to look like any desktop or to suit the tastes and preferences of any user. But I tried to kickoff, kicker, et al., display text at the top of the screen (like gnome shell or elementary for example), and could not. So I thought it would be a good idea to have the simple choice on our desktop. Then will be the end user who decides that he will use this option. If you choose to use it.
It is true. Anyway the idea should be applied as an option. You should not change the default appearance icon application launcher. |
