Hello,

one of the most requested features in Plasma 5 is adding week numbers into the calnedars. We already have all the backend code in place, but the missing thing is the visualization.

So I've tried to simply add them next to the existing grid, but I think it looks a bit unbalanced now, see below.

So I'd like to ask - some tips for how to do it in a visually pleasing way?

Thanks

I'm not a visual designer, just a user who really needs week numbers ;)

Personally, I'd be quite happy with it as is, but as a suggestion; what if the grid was simply extended (perhaps with a heading of 'wk') to include the week number column.

I'm afraid that simply extending the grid would make the calendar much less readable because it would look all the same...

Having thought about this... I don't believe it would make it less readable for those of us who *use* week numbers, perhaps you don't use them? I've never had a problem with readability on the old 4.x calendar. Week numbers are clearly, well, week numbers. There could be an option within the calendar settings to disable their display for those who don't use/want week numbers shown.

But, as I said, I not a visual designer, just a 'mere user'...

IMO the current week number should be highlighted by making it bold.

The weekday labels sit above the grid showing information about the columns in the grid below. I think the week numbers should use the same visual language: outside the grid with the same font size, weight, etc. as the weekday labels, and showing information about the rows in the grid.

Hope this helps! :-)

Just thinking a little bit further: Is the unbalancing important at all, given the applet will (hopefully soon) get back the event list on the right ? (I remember reading that the code was there, but disabled because there was no data to display.)

Thanks Andrew.

Based on that I've come up with this; what do you think?

That's where the objection had started. Week numbers have no title and look similar to days. At least change the color, IMHO.

Nice :)

Perhaps just add a heading of "Wk" or "No" to the week-number column.

But they are clearly outside the grid. Is that not enough differentiation?

(also note that this will be optional with default to off).

That will not work for every language; plus you will have to switch that option on first, that should already hint you what that column is.

OK... I just like headings... must be my obsessive compulsive thing. (I thought translations took care of the language...)

So, do I take it that week numbers will be 'Off' by default, those who need them will have to enable them? If that's the case, then a very wise move, can't have us "weekies" confusing other users... :)

Edit: Aha, should have read more closely - yes, off by default.

Seriously, I appreciate the work you're doing on this. Many thanks.
