User switching/sessions

Tue Jun 30, 2015 5:54 pm
Hi,

User switching with KDE 5 and SDDM is currently very unintuitive and frustrating.

For starters, allowing multiple sessions per user adds a lot of confusion. In my opinion, it should be optional and turned off by default (or hidden in advanced options) because it is very confusing to new users and very frustrating to use in general.

Then we have the lock screen. Switching users in it is a pain. Clicking has a weird effect on the items in the session list and keyboard navigation is pretty unresponsive too.

It would be great to see this whole subsystem redesigned. This is the only thing stopping me from using KDE on a computer I share with my family.

Thanks in advance.

I fully support and fully share your opinion! The logon process and user switching process should redesigned on the basis, known from another big commercial operating system. My wife, who for many years now Linux used by me, has already complained about the logon process because that's too complicated.
She was irritated that multiple active sessions are displayed for examplre, the other that you have to make as many clicks to log in with another user. I'm really sorry, but as it is designed currently, it is really a big fail for normal users.
Please rethink that whole again!
