My first experience with KDE was when I purchased Mandrake 7 in 2000. At the time KDE2 was the latest KDE release.
This post is about having a nice "Trash bin" icon for the Plasma 5 desktop.

While reviewing Plasma 5, I thought it was an oversight. However, while posting on the openSUSE-kde mail list
I was informed that this was intentional. Plasma 5's Breeze icon set uses a regular folder with a small blue icon representing the Trash.

When designing a modern desktop environment adding a traditional Trash icon is the way of identifying
and differentiating a regular folder from a trash folder. Yes.

When deleting files, images and folders a user will have an easy way of identifying where they are located.
This allows new users to smoothly transition from Windows or OSX environments.

Omitting the standard KDE4-type trash icon and replacing it with a regular folder with a small blue trash icon
just doesn't work. I have dozens of users asking me where the Trash bin is located.

I'm also concerned about users with vision problems that are going to have problems identifying the trash folder.
It's also easier to delete by accident.

Every modern OS geared for the home and professional markets uses a "Trash bin" icon.

Please bring back the trash can icon to Breeze.

can you post a screenshot I don't know that a trash icon is used outside of the dolphin sidebar and there an icon is available.

I've included the screen shot here: http://img.susepaste.org/65747257

You will notice that it looks like a regular folder with a small trash can image in the centre of the folder.
What we need is a bold Trash bin icon that people can identify with on the desktop.

Every version of kde has had a very identifiable Trash bin except the default Breeze icon set on Plasma 5.

Let's bring back the Trash bin ;-)

I submit to the Breeze icon set designers that your approach to the Trash bin can be saved in an update.

Blue folder = empty Trash bin
Red folder = full or partially full Trash bin

This also applies to the plasmoid.

There are a lot of people that colourize their folders. By using your present concept , visually the Trash bin has been lost.
Please create two slick Trash bin icons to represent an empty and full Trash bin. ;-)

I was trying to get attention to this topic so that this may included in time for the release of openSUSE Leap 42.1.

Can you slightly modify the Oxygen Trash bin to a Breeze style?

It is going to be released around November 4, 2015.

hi

the folder-trash icon is for dolpin not for plasmoids. for the plasmoid a new icon is needed.

in the icon HIGs there is written where to use which icon. so we will work on the plasmoid but since now the wrong icon was used.

The problem with using a trash folder image in Dolphin is that openSUSE has assigned a red colour for the root folder.
I've seen other designers' icon sets that have created a proper Trash bin for the desktop and dolphin.
Consider a green Trash icon for Dolphin as it's an environmental icon and ideal for openSUSE. ^-^

IMHO A Trash bin is a Trash bin whether it's a plasmoid or in dolphin.
We have been seeing a trend for icons appearing too small to view (using pencil-like icons) in dolphin.

Example:
- Make it easy to focus on what matters
- Remove or minimize elements not crucial to the primary task
- Use spacing to keep things uncluttered
- Use color to draw attention
- Reveal additional information or optional functions when needed, not before
- Do not limit user options for the sake of a design principle

KDE4 has a beautiful design in Oxygen as the default. The Breeze icons also have a beautiful look except for the missing icons in question.
Consider what the icons will look in a very high resolution. Viewing a nice Trash bin icon in dolphin would look impressive indeed.

Suggestion
For the Trash bin folder in the Places section in dolphin. Can you draw an icon on the folder using a triangle shape using arrows representing trash?
It would stand out.

Any thoughts?

Hi rbysh. I understand you, but when you think about the Trash bin it is a folder where the files where moved so in the meaning it is right. Since now there is no new icon. That's the status.

I understand that it's a folder in dolphin. However, Plasma 5 trash plasmoid is missing the traditional trash bin icon.
C'mon KDE has used a Trash bin icon in every version of KDE since Version 1.
