Hi,

this year's KDE developer meeting in Randa (Swiss), to happen at begin of September, just has started its fundraising [1].
This will be accompanied in the next days/weeks by lots of related blog posts by the people going there, to raise and keep attention up.
In those blog posts the participants would tell what they plan to do in Randa, and have links in the post to the fundraiser webpage [2].
Ideally one would use a catchy and inviting banner for that (perhaps consistent over all blog posts).
So readers of the blog post are less likely to miss the hint to the fundraiser.
And even better, feel positively motivated to follow that link and then donate their 2 cents.

Just, so far there are no banners to use in those blog posts :/

One visual that has been used for the Randa meetings lately is modern Konqi with swiss motives [3]. So that might be nice to have as part of the banner.
This year's main theme of the meeting is "Bring Touch to KDE.": participants will be working to expand touch capabilities in KDE applications for tablets, smartphones and other touch-enabled devices.

There used to be some hints about ideal sizes for such banners, but I could not find them in a quick search. Perhaps you know that yourself?

Ideally someone could come up with a banner in the next 2-3 days, as we are late here :(
(Next year hopefully the request for such a banner is done in time :< )

Cmp. other banners used for fundraising e.g. in these posts:
* http://tsdgeos.blogspot.de/2014/10/make ... -year.html
* https://frinring.wordpress.com/2014/06/ ... -calligra/

Find me and more people to talk about this also on freenode's #randa irc channel. And yes, some of the VDG will be present in Randa as well :)

Noone challenged by this? Or is the weather just to fine? :)

So let's see if this inspires you to do something better: sketched a banner as I would have liked to do it, if I knew about how to use Inkscape for fancy effects ;)
Image
(Updated to higher res Konqi meanwhile and another text)

Used that Swiss Konqi image, the oxygen font, and the phone shape from the Breeze KDE Connect icon with plasma symbol removed.

Any better ideas for the text?

Please find the Inkscape file here: https://share.kde.org/index.php/s/nykTf6wb7PydwrH

Hoping someone will pick this up and shape to look nice. Or do something better :)

Does this work? I made a new Randa logo/graphic but I hope that works

And one more with the same Edelweiss K logo

Nice work, thanks. I like that last one most.
Detailed nitpicking is:
- It's "Randa Meetings 2015" not "Randa 2015"
- The fundraiser is for all of KDE's sprints not just Randa.

But to be honest. Let's keep it like this. The banner will link to the fundraiser page which explains the details and "Randa 2015" works too.
About the bigger banner: the landscape in the background is just too flat. Take a look at randa.ch ;-)

UPDATE: Oh and I love the KDE Edelweiss. I want a t-shirt ...

I also like the last banner most. Thanks for coming up with those two proposals, Jens :)
Would also agree that there is no real need to twist it more, it should do its purpose well as it is.
So who is there to give this the final blessing and recommend it to bloggers?

(My 2 cents about the Edelweiss logo: it looks nice in itself, and surely would also look great on e.g. t-shirts.
Just, it is that abstract that it lost IMHO any real relationship to Randa, and could be a logo for all kind of (KDE) things around the world, as the blossom is now just a generic blossom (more with sunflower as prototype), without any characteristics of an Edelweiss, like the multiple "floret-pods" or the fuzzy rather thin petals of different length. (cmp. e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edelweiss) So not really excited about that as Randa logo, rather hoping for more drafts of that :) )

Oh and would be great if we could make banner out of this like "I'm going to the Randa Meetings 2015". Maybe with an improved KDE-Edelweiss? And I think I'll announce the other banner (last one) tomorrow officially in my blog post.

Thanks jens
