Hello awesome VDG folks.
I'm taking a task from the kde-ev board to help push ordering new kde stickers for events (I think that's what they are wanted for anyway). Which designs should we use when ordering new stickers for these events? I've personally owned square stickers with the kde 4.0 logo on them in both large and smaller sizes, but if you have any better ideas or newer assets for this that would be great. Once we have one or two designs Lydia will order them I believe. thanks, Jeremy Whiting |

Anyone? The sticker design I've seen in real life before is the KDE gear icon that's the icon for the forums also. I.e. blue square, gear with a K in it. If we don't get any better ideas I guess that's the one we'll end up ordering. I thought maybe there would be a better/newer design floating around somewhere though.

Lets give this thread more posts to wake up the VDG
I think we need a new design for the stickers. The previous one does not fit the latest designs for Plasma. |

Sry for slow reply, I gota new toy this week and trying to install it without messing the raid0 setup on it which turned out trickier than I had imagined... Aaaaanyway
I have some fairly clear cut opinions personally on any print material we do: it should either be clear-cut no faffing, just the basics OR it should be creative and a bit odd. So in this case having the same K-logo we all use like in Ivans screenshot - http://ibin.co/w800/2CtBsl258k7l - maybe without the white border and maybe square corners, but essentially the same AND after that make some "odd ones". I remember me and Lydia talked about this at Akademy - the hipster material as I think we called it. The stickers (etc) that instead of looking like a moderate accounting firm made them for holiday retreat or an event was a tad bit more obscure (the example we talked about was wikipedia's football scarves with "[citation needed]" printed on them. For that we need to find OUR "citation needed" - a thing, a phrase,n object, that reminds people of KDE enough to be directly associated with it, yet still be an "inside joke". (Like Hipster sarcastic clothing - an inside joke but which is only "edgy" or "clever" if you're blunt as a hammer and about as sharp as marshmallow) What that could be I have no idea - I would think playing off either our geekiness or techyness or both. A sticker with some code that is, to people who know how to code definetly KDE related without it being obviously so (I turn to you programmers). Something in Kwin perhaps? Maybe that, small, printed in white on transparent material (so that it sticks out from the usually black laptop) would work?

I like the idea of 'fun' stickers.
Jeremy, how soon is this needed? The only 'official' mantra that we (over)used is 'be free.' (that I can recall). |

Brainstorming ideas:
- kde logo with cartoon tentacles like [1] and text along the lines 'spreading everywhere' - something like kde india thing [2] - "more freedom" (I saw this on one of the Randa pictures, not fun, but nice spin on 'be free') [1] http://g03.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1uoZDHVXX ... b-wall.jpg [2] https://dot.kde.org/sites/dot.kde.org/f ... ialogo.jpg |

I'm not sure of the time frame actually. I just took the task to get a new design from the ev todo list. I think the sooner the better though.
Jens, I like the idea of a standard sticker idea and a fun one besides. The way you describe the kde logo square sticker sounds good to me. I also like the idea of a fun design. Whatever makes sense to you guys is fine with me. I know we've had "Be Free" before. There have also been a number of slogan/mottos within KDE for other things, but probably nothing that encompasses all of KDE like "Be Free". As for fun, what about something with a gear theme. I know we beat gears into the ground using them all over the place, but it really is a good theme for intricate software that works well together imo. |

I just had another idea yesterday evening for a "fun" sticker idea. We have the playful konqi cartoonish characters each in a different color and each doing something kde related. What if we designed a puzzle where each piece had one of them on it (or maybe just split up an image that has all of them using palapeli, so some stickers are even just parts of a konqi etc.) And distribute one piece at each event over the next 10 events for a puzzle with 10 pieces. So those that are shrewd and trade or go to all 10 events somehow end up with a whole puzzle of stickers to apply to their laptop or suitcase or whatnot. This would gamify getting stickers from the KDE booth at different events. Maybe 10 is too many, maybe 5 or maybe it's too few and we want 20, dunno, but the idea of getting a sticker which is a puzzle piece sounds fun to me. And we have precedence of using puzzle images to represent KDE and even part of one of those konqi's is recognizable depending how small the pieces end up.
What do you think? No I won't get offended and run away if you think this idea will be too hard to pull off or is silly, just throwing it out there. |

nice idea. and on the backside of each puzzle element is the date and name of the event. and when you miss an event you can buy the puzzle element without date. |

Hi
I think one problem with this idea is people are different on each event nobody will have more than one or two piece of the puzzle I guess. Or if we do in the same event year after year, not sure someone will wait 5 years to complete the collection... I love the idea but for me seems totally unreallistic. Another idea can be on event with more than one day, to deliver a part of the puzzle each day (in most event that will limit us to 2 pieces puzzle...) I think stickers related to event can be a good idea. Indeed that can spread the word KDE is present everywhere. But perhaps hard to design and print stickers for each event. Cheers, Benjamin |

Maybe we should stick with the current KDE Icon first, then order more later on if/when we create designs for those more fun stickers? Having something to hand out at the upcoming conferences would be ideal.
