I really like Gnome 3.18 release video, it looks really professionnal. I think maybe KDE should take ideas from it.

I agree that the gnome video looks nice. But I don't like it as a promotion video. Its more like a change log for the newest gnome version. A user not familiar with gnome has a hard time to understand what they actually showing.
Actually I think the same is pretty much true for the Windows 10 introduction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qr-1Q6N ... e=youtu.be . If you don't know what cortana is, you probably wont understand whats going on. In other windows ads they use a lot of actors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gu6vmNz-PhE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UqK61MHZqI Instead of actors to tell a story, what about a comic? Since Krita is one of the best digital paining application it would be fitting to be used in a kde promotion video. Unfortunately I can't paint Suggestion for a plot Susan wants to go on vaccation - creates an activity for the planing - decorates the activity with weather information, photos, ... of the destination - opens the browser with information about destination - plan trip with marble Some days later - switches back to the activity - ads a note for things to take with her - continue browsing or something to show activity has preserved the state vacation - sync photos from mobile to laptop ? back at home - download the photos from her camera and mobile (KDE-Connect, owncloud, dolphin) - edit, sort, annotate photos with digicam - share photos or export video |

Since apple release an OS X 10.11, El Capitan, this week I search for promotion videos for it, but could find any official one.
Interestingly there a no promotion videos for iOS either. They only show promotion videos / ads for their devices. Same is true for android. I couldn't find an official Android L (or M) video. Google (and the handset manufactures) show ads / promotion videos for their devices only. |

I just wanted to let you know that I made Kubuntu 15.10 official video
http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kubuntu-15-10/ and I am going to do something similar for Plasma 5.5, so if you have any comments/opinions feel free to share them here |

I think we should avoid text transitions, in my opinion they look unprofessional. Gnome did a very good job with their promotion video for 3.18, we should get some inspiration from that. |

GNOME is using voice to explain what is happening in the video. Unfortunately I do not have such a luxury. But I agree that the text transitions should be more subtitle, and I think that simple fade in/ fade out will do the job |

KDE is kinda huge community. I think it wouldn't be a problem to simply ask someone to record few lines of text and then play it over the video. You just need someone with good English pronunciation. Choosing a women's voice also helps as it's a softer voice and usually more pleasant to listen to. It doesn't have to be a one-man job.
Indeed. It kinda reminds me of WordArts...

Let's to be honest. I do not have skills nor experience to recreate what GNOME team has done, so I am sad to say that no voice and only text this time. Sorry |

There's no magic to it though. If you can put music over video, putting
voice over it is absolutely no different. It's just an audio track with some timing. Nothing more really...

I know the basics but this is not what I have in mind. One cannot simply replace text with voice recording and yet leave the video without changes. Simply put, if we want to use voice we need to rethink the concept of the video completely. And believe me this rather low on my priority list right now. I need to record some plasma 5.5 material first and even this is quite a challenge. To my knowledge only openSUSE provides unstable repo with Plasma 5.5. And installing Plasma 5.5 on openSUSE Leap 42 results in broken desktop. |
