Hi,
I'd like to make an Plasma 5.4 and KDE 15.08 promotion Video. The idea is to show what KDE 5 is and how mature it is. I don't want to only show the new stuff since 5.3 I will show the user experience. The idea behind simple by default and powerful when needed. So I need you. Please link to screenshots of your system. write what's you favourite application and why, link to music I can use in a promo video. Pictures, Screenshots, Songs, and what do you would like to see. The video should say we are KDE a community with the best desktop environmental including why we have the best desktop. Feel free and thanks |

I think it would be good to tell a story. Not only show one application after another and one feature after another, but concentrate on one specific application at a time (15-30 seconds?), put one workflow-story at the center of that application and show how KDE eases the workflow for that story, then move to the next application (which can, of course, be a completely different story). Maybe the Personas could be used for the stories?
As you mentioned dolphin, this could be something along this line: Susan ("I want to be creative and flexible") has shot a ton of photos. She's able to quickly filter out most of them by setting dolphin to "preview", "large icons" and then increase the preview size [three dolphin features]. She deletes a couple of images and after that she renames the remaining ones [Select ALL + F2] to a naming scheme "Birthday###.png". For photos that are already the "final" shot, she wants to move some of the images to a different folder [->Split]. Since she uploads a ton of photos to $photoCloudService (e.g. owncloud?) she creates a new entry in the context menu to do that (Note: I have no idea if this is even possible ). The remaining photos in the original folder could then move on to gwenview where "rotate" and "resize" are shown (etc....) Of course, this does not show all features and possibilities of dolphin, but I'm afraid if we do that, the video might get a bit boring. Matt (the student from the Personas) or Philip (the Geek) may then be the one to feature KDE Connect. Of course the contents of the video highly depends on the target audience. Maybe it would be good, to focus on two or three Personas for one video, or even make one video per Persona.
openSUSE 13.2 x64, Platform Version 4.14.X, Kubuntu 14.04 (LTS), Platform Version 4.13.X

I liked the video review that InfinitelyGalactic made.
I know this is not a promotional Video, but maybe there are some inspiring elements for video design: Check it out at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svEMrNaQ50E |

I second ripper17 : before deciding which feature to show, you should first state who is your target audience and what message you want to communicate. I think you should focus on demonstrating the vision (simple by default, powerful when needed) and showing what makes Plasma and KDE unique. For me it would be something along the line of : don't adapt your workflow to your workspace, customise your workspace to fit your workflow. It might be a good idea to get in touch with the KDE Promo team, as they might have done part or all of this job of deciding which features to present for which target audience. If not, they might be interested to join the discussion and to reuse the outcome for other promotional purposes.

Whats the intended video duration?
In my option something in between 30 - 90 secs would work best for so. like Matt or Susan. For Philip up to 3 minutes would be ok I guess. |

I was thinking that maybe a series of shorter videos (1-2 minutes) would be a good idea. Such as an overview video like mentioned above showing that new Plasma 5 awesomesauce, followed by a few short, task-oriented videos. The second video could be "KDE does business" and highlights LibreOffice, Okular, KMyMoney, Kontact, etc. The 3rd could be "KDE does recreation" and highlights Amarok, DigiKam, Krita, KRecipies (if that is still maintained at all) etc., the 4th could be "KDE does education" and highlights KDE Edu and GCompris. Lastly we could do a "Getting involved with KDE" video should how people can contribute in many ways to the KDE Community. Of course we could also do more videos - gaming, development, etc. - the sky is the limit.
These are just ideas and the applications are just example ones, but I like the idea of a main "Plasma 5 is awesomesauce"-type video followed by example videos of a Plasma 5 desktop / laptop in action. Thoughts? |

Well I am going to make a video for Plasma 5.5. As for Kubuntu, I do not have any plans currently, and yes GNOME video looks awesome. |
