Does currently an "About Plasma" dialog exist? I could not find one.

The dialog could be useful to know that is actually Plasma which is running the desktop and to lookup the current version for bug reports.

First thought where to put it: in the Plasma menu.

A literal clone of the About Mac dialog?.

FYI, you can find that info in KinfoCenter.

Please, I don't use a Mac. Don't know how it works there. (And if so, would it make Plasma look bad? Plasma will always shine if one values software freedom.) (Sorry if I got the tone wrong. The question looked like an implied accusation.)

As active Plasma user and advocate I would find it natural to be able to show people what they are actually using and in what version. I was actually thinking of the "About Kate dialog" and the other about dialogs around my free desktop system.

Thanks for the hint. How about putting a menu item to KInfoCenter to the Plasma menu? On the other hand, it is not part of the standard Plasma installation, or is it? So at least on my Plasma 5.4 installation there is no obvious way to get that info.

The About Mac dialog : http://pystar.github.io/pystar/_images/about_mac.png - is dialog that's inside the Apple menu on the panel (or however it's called in OSX) in the desktop where the start menu would be located.

I pictured it like that.

That information, at least in Kubuntu, was a KCM and it was installed by default. In Manjaro it's installed by default. By Plasma menu you mean the menu when you right click in the desktop?.

I thought of the former "Cashew menu" in the upper right screen corner. The desktop context menu would be also fine, I guess.

I installed KInfoCenter and found that the Plasma version is displayed there. In addition to that I thought of information which is shown in the traditional KDE About dialogs:

- Reference to website, https://www.kde.org/workspaces/plasmadesktop/
- Mentioning of the license (GPL? LGPL?)
- List of authors and contributors
- Logo if there is one
