So on the various KDE channels I noticed a general feedback about
the 5.5 icons that those in the plasma panel are very similar to each
other and so not easily distinguishable.

I have to agree that at the klipper, devices and printer looks very
similar to each other and I, too, have a hard time recognising it
easily.

I've made a screenshot, the top part is 5.5, the bottom part is 5.4

Just thought I'd let you know.

I don't have an opinion regarding the icons, because I disable them anyway. But what catches the eye immediately is that the weather and date "widgets" aren't center-aligned properly. It's not really the case when the panel is in vertical layout.

The weather is actually not a weather but a cpu temperature
and it's a bit **** plasmoid from kde-look.org, but does the
job done. Just ignore that one.

Hi,

I agree with you for the new icons, that are less readable: I preferred when they were more *light* (less details and more minimalist).

I like the red icons when disabled. I think it's easier to spot the difference between dark gray and red than dark gray and light gray.

My last point concerns the new icons for Quit/Restart/Suspend and the icons in the menu (Applications, Computer and so on). I really loved the very discrete gray icons of last version. It was looking quite pro. A little in the direction taken by Mac OS for instance. Now, it's full of different colors, and I find it too... like a toy for children. (I don't find the good english word but I hope you understand what I mean).

Edit:
I realized that the icons I liked are still in the theme but in 22x22, if you want to compare.

Just a thought: maybe you could let us choose between a minimalist theme and the current theme? Since you already did the job before (yes I say it again but the set was way better in my opinion).

I'll be putting the previous theme on kde-look.org shortly, you should be able to install it from there using "Get new themes" in the themes settings.

Ok, but in my opinion it's going to the wrong direction to use so complex icons with so much colors. It can be seen as "pimp my desktop" which is definitely not what we want.

However I wasn't in the vdg discussion, so I'm not aware of the vision they have. I'll be glad if they could tell the reason, or redirect me to the corresponding thread (because I haven't found it).

I just tested your link.

I think that the current theme is way better because more flat and so on. The problem is really about the icons.

Ok, I'll put up icons-only one too.

Hello,

I disagree about being compliant with flat principles. I have posted my personal opinion there:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355563
I don't understand why we are adding borders in panel for each icons.

This feels lighter:

than:

You could however keep the current version of "active" application and just remove the border.

I agree with you too! I liked the idea with the simple blue lines above the launcher icons very much. The new one looks like the early misconceptions of M$'s visual styles - too old and totally out of style at all. Also this one:

looks too colourfull and kitschy in comparisson with the old monochrome icons which according to me were very stylish.

In the past we had a lot issues with the monochrome icons in addition the monochrome icons are ONLY for toolbars.

About the panel I like the new panel cause the application icons at the old ones were smaller than the system tray icons. In my mind this look really strange.

The redesigned icons for restart, logout etc have much too fine detail which turns into an undistinguishable muddle. It looks especially bad if you use SDDM with the breeze theme. In SDDM, the icons are so small that you basically see a blue ball next to a red ball with some indistinguishable offwhite elements at the center.
Take a look at the sleep icon in the above screenshot. The contrast is much too low.
Also, the blue shade indicating the active window is unsuited for blue/green icons: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1747432/plasma55.png

I think the icons are running fine, however, I have a serious problem with the battery icon. To stay smaller than the rest of the icons in the vertical, breaks the uniformity of the rest of the icons.

Maybe if they do higher, or relocate vertical, the appearance improves. ;)
