Breeze style for Virtual Keyboard

Fri Apr 29, 2016 11:47 am
Hi VDG,

this is just a heads-up for a feature I'm working on which might need visual touch.

I'm currently working on integrating the QtVirtualKeyboard into KWin. The virtual keyboard is fully stylable and I think a Breeze style would be a good thing.

Screenshot of how it looks currently:

We might also want further features, like a Plasmoid to show the keyboard, etc. Currently my idea is to always use the virtual keyboard if we don't have a hardware keyboard. But only on Wayland I have that knowledge.

The keyboard is for both desktop and mobile. It's convergence ;-)

That's difficult. We cannot provide the height. The height gets automatically calculated based on the width and we don't have influence on it.

No, unfortunately I didn't figure that one out yet. The documentation only says it's a static aspect ratio.

Well, from the screenshot above, I'd say it's around 3.15:1. But maybe it can be changed ?

Hey, I made a mockup for what it "could" look like using breeze. I tried going for a more striking look than the rest of keyboards out there. I am not 100% sure if these are all the keys and features we want but if you let me know, I can probably re-work the graphics.

I think yes. I assume that the size of the keys defined in the style will affect the ratio. But it's something I need to properly investigate.

I think the design looks quite unique, but I'm having a bit of a hard time trying to imagine how it would work on mobile devices where you wouldn't have much space between the keys. Could you maybe also share your vision for a Breeze phone keyboard?
