Icon and few images for KGraphViewer

Fri Jul 14, 2017 10:54 pm
Hi,

I'm trying to release the Frameworks version of kgraphviewer. The code is there (thanks to the people who did most of the work), but few icons used in the code should probably deserve a better version (they came from probably even before kdelibs4).

The first picture that should be changed is the icon of the program: you can see it here, and it also available only in small sizes:

https://www.kde.org/applications/graphics/kgraphviewer/

There are few PNGs included in the program, namely:

The "chains":
https://cgit.kde.org/kgraphviewer.git/plain/src/part/chain.png
https://cgit.kde.org/kgraphviewer.git/plain/src/part/chain-broken.png
which are used here (yes, the layout should be redone, but not in this first release which tries to be a port and nothing more):

Another one is:
https://cgit.kde.org/kgraphviewer.git/tree/src/part/kgraphviewer-bev.png
which is used in the "Enable Bird's-eye View" action:

Finally, less important for now:
https://cgit.kde.org/kgraphviewer.git/tree/src/part/kgraphviewer-newedge.png
https://cgit.kde.org/kgraphviewer.git/tree/src/part/kgraphviewer-newnode.png
which are used in kgrapheditor (which is not compiled by default), "Create a New Vertex" and "Create a New Edge" (they replace the cursor when clicked):
Image[/list]

My questions are:
- do you have some spare cycles to create an application icon, even a reaaaally really simple one?
- is there any existing standard action (possibly in both breeze and oxygen) which can be used for them images above (chain*, kgraphviewer-bev, kgraphviewer-newedge, kgraphviewer-newnode)?
- if you have some additional spare cycles, could you provide an alternative for kgraphviewer-bev and the chain*? The others are less important, as the editor is less developed and not compiled by default.

To browse (Breeze)-Icons, Cuttlefish is a quite useful tool.

I found the following suggestions (for the Breeze-Icon theme) using it:

For the chain-icon, "link" appears to be a good match.
However there seems to be nothing like an "unlink"-counterpart, maybe "lock" and "unlock" will do as an alternative.

"format-segment-line" and "ellipse-shape" may be used instead of kgraphviewer-newedge and kgraphviewer-newnode, but they are not that accurate matches.

Not sure what may be a good substitute for the "Bird's-eye View" icon, maybe it's ok if that action has no icon at all, since it's quite difficult to find a simple visualization for that.

Oh, right, I forgot about it!

Maybe object-locked and object-unlocked (available for both Breeze and Oxygen, unfortunately not for Adwaita).

And not available in Oxygen.

Uhm, I will think about it.

But thanks for taking the time to check.
