Grteetings!

For a while I used to build Krita from Git using Deevad's "Building Krita for cats" tutorial. Now however I rely on Krita heavily daily, I have both very important personal works and actual paid commissions I have to work on and now,, so I'm using the stable official package. I'm a Krita-exclusive artist now and I want to stay this way. :D

I would love to try the features of 2.9, and also to give feedback, but right now I cannot afford to risk loss of work or even time, so I need to have Krita stable as a backup and for being used in critical projects.

Could someone help me how to set up the Git version for cohabitation with the stable Arch Linux package in a way that updating the Git version daily won't require too much manual voodooing? I've managed to set up manually patched versions of Wine for specific games to cohabit with the official package, but that involved lots of manual hacking around in the PKGBUILD that I would rather not do every day and every time I want to build Krita Git fresh.

WARNING: My Linux knowledge is very basic, and my Git and compiling knowledge is even more so. So I would like to ask you to please give me clear instructions or at least links to articles I can read, and don't assume I know anything about this. :D I'm a techy person, just my knowledge of Linux is very limited.

Thanks in advance!

Storm

I'm going to sit down and write a tutorial for this -- give me an hour or so.

Oh WOW! I didn't expect that much! :D My hat off to you!

I'm going to do that as soon as I have time and energy - probably tomorrow because it's very late already and I just got home. I'm going to report back here once it's done, and let you know if I had any issues or I have any feedback on the tutorial.

Once again, thank you very much! :D

Greetings!

My apologies for the delay, my life got busy and I only got around to do this now. In short, works well!

On Arch Linux:
  1. git-new-workdir comes with git on Arch, but bash doesn't recognize the command, so it needs to be called with full path at usr/share/git/workdir/git-new-workdir . Strange...
  2. List of dependency packages:
    Code: Select all
kdelibs qt4 perl zlib libpng boost boost-libs openexr mesa gsl eigen eigen2 exiv2 lcms2 vc shared-mime-info poppler poppler-qt4 openjpeg libjpeg-turbo fftw glew opencolorio libtiff libkdcraw make cmake
  3. There is no boost-system package on Arch, so I installed boost-libs instead, and it seems to work.
