Newsletter sign up

Mon Jan 19, 2015 4:34 am
I was thinking it would be a very good idea to have a separate mailing list just for people that are interested in hearing about new releases for Krita. This will help "remind" people that Krita is chugging along with new versions to download and play with. There isn't a very good way that people are notified currently. We rely too heavily on social media and RSS (which a lot of people don't check regularly). An email with a notification is a nice reminder.

The goal is to make this very simple and unobtrusive. Sending an email for every post is going to be way too much, so we need to just send out important information with things that are actionable (downloads, kickstarter, etc). This is what I was thinking for the homepage design to start off...

We can try to use the "krita-announce@krita.org" email address. If that isn't right, let me know.

For the email message, I was thinking this...

The posts are usually long and have a bunch of stuff in it, so i don't think it is a good idea to put everything in the email. Just the first sentence or two, and then a link to see the post. I don't want this to be a burden to send out and format. It needs to be simple to modify and send out when needed.

Thoughts?

alright. I can send bcooksley a message to see if that mailing list is created. I am also not sure how to test it out and load in the HTML template. I can ask him if I need special credentials to send stuff out. I asked about it earlier through a ticket and he said everything can be done through mailman -- which will be nice.
