Organizing Brushes

Fri May 08, 2015 12:12 pm
It would be so great during this next round of development to be able to address the ability to organize our brush tools by dragging and dropping them within the docker itself (similar to layers). Like most, I have different "paint boxes" via the tag system for different types of projects. Having the brushes organized alphabetically is probably an artifice of programming but doesn't really translate to an artist's way of thinking (besides renaming brushes from the different naming schemes that have already been created is a pain)

as always, thanks being open to suggestions

Yes... Right now, all we have is tagging, and that's nice, but actually customizing the order of brushes is something we've wanted to do for a long time. But it is a fair amount of work, and we just haven't had time for it.

Hello everyone.

I`m also very interested in the possibility of brushes organizing.
So I would like to ask the developers about the possibility of creating a brushes library that will allow:
- to inport users brushes from other editors (after I found Krite, I do not want to go back to Photoshop, but it is a pity to lose my brushes collection);
- to create users subsections in the library (for example: base, oil, watercolor, plants, textured, sci-fy, etc.) to simplify the search and management;
- to make a few favorite sets to quickly switch between.
If participation is welcomed, I would like to take a part in design of this interface. This is very exciting challenge.

Regards.

The second and third of your questions are already possible by using tags. (Just rightclick a brush in the preset docker and assign it a tag), and then in the pop-up palette, you can click the wrench icon and switch between tags.

The first is not possible because photoshop brushes are too different from Krita brushes. We can import the tips, but not much else. We've tried doing so before with little luck.

Why not organize a "workflow" project on phabricator guys? to keep track of everything nice and neatly.

Right now I haven't done so because we're still trying to figure out the phabricator, and I only have organised things on there that we are working on soon.

It would be great to be able to open a second brush presets docker, open one to "all presets" and one to view presets tagged with a certain tag, and when the user drags presets from the first window into the second, they would be tagged with the tag that's open in that window.

There are other reasons why a second brush presets docker view would be useful as well (for example, having two tags open at once, or when you're organizing brushes, or if you want to have a small docked preset view at the same time as a larger preset window open on a second monitor.)

Thanks - the shortcut's handy for sure... That's just the dropdown though, right? No way to detach it and make it a second window?
