I haven't had a crash in several days and Krita has gracefully shut down each time I've closed it but I see that I have a number of backup/working files that haven't been cleaned up.

I'm on Win7 64. I have files stretching back months. Known issue?

These are normal backup files. these are not autosave files.
In addition to Autosave feature there is also a backup feature in Krita.

if you have set create back up files option 'ON' in Krita setting Krita saves backup files.

I had also asked about this a while back and got to know that these are backup files. if you feel they waste space and not needed you can turn off backup, as there is also an autosave feature.

thank you

Yes you can delete the backup files after you feel that they are no longer required.

Here's the bug report that I filed without knowing that they were back-up files and are not supposed to get deleted like the autosave files.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=340027

you can see boud has replied to the bug.

thank you
