MacOSX 10.0+ Support

Mon Jun 15, 2015 6:38 am
Hello, I'm a big fan of Krita! I'm going to be upgrading before too long to newer versions of the MacOSX, and I was wondering if there was working being done on getting Krita working on Yosemite, and possibly the newly announced OS update as well.

What are some of the challenges facing the porting? Should I just create an Ubuntu partition for Krita, or might it be possible to use Krita on OSX10.0 soon?

I'm also open to helping out the development for Mac if help could be used. I'm sure I'd have to do some learning, but I'd probably be able to help out if it's needed.

I'd love help making osx packages. I've only got an ancient macmini. It's already really slow so I don't want to update it to newer versions of OSX; I also feel it's Apple's fault if a binary build on Mavericks breaks on Yosemite. That shouldn't be rocket-science... Building on OSX is not easy, though. The easy route, which doesn't help creating dmg's for users is using macports, the hard route is being documented here: https://community.kde.org/Krita/osxbuild

Yeah, I find it extremely odd that the upgrade would kill any apps working in Mavericks, but I don't think apples going to fix that at this point.

Can you clarify about macports? Do you just mean that with that the dependencies can be automatically/easily installed and used by the binary?
Also, do you know if there are any dependencies that don't work on Yosemite?

I'll take a look at the instructions and see if I can figure anything out later this week.

As far as I know, or rather, have been told, macports can take care of almost all dependencies. The result is not really native, though, even though Krita won't use X11.
