Is this a feature that is on the Krita "wish list" for the future. I'm thinking of the way that Painter and ArtRage allow the stroke to interact with the grain and tooth of the paper?
It's just one more tick on the "it feels like the real thing" list... just curious. thx |

It might depend a bit what you want from such a feature... a full-blown paint simulation (I don't think artrage or painter do this either, but verve does it) does not currently seem on the horizon. You can already use blending modes like "hard light" to put paint on top of a paper texture and this will cause the paint to interact with the grain of the paper in some way.
Maybe some additional blending-modes or brush-properties could be added so that you can e.g. load a paper texture as heightmap and then the brush will not easily "reach" into the crevices unless used with high pressure. But I'm not currently aware of any plans or a bugreport that wishes for this feature (maybe make one?) |

To some extent that is already possible if you check the "pattern" option in the brush settings.

It's been a long standing wish and would be intertwined with eventual water-colour sims. The issue is that the code involved is really hard, as well as the previous attempt being really slow to use( and most modern faster conceptions involve using the GPU with a fluid sim, which Krita's architecture isn't ready for atm, so it's not only the feature itself, but also a rewrite of Krita's core image handling). So we've put it aside for now.
It may come at some point, but unless there's a smart programmer available to do it, it's on hold. Amadiro: the texture feature does the height-map thing. |
