Krita's Vector tools have some weak points, especially about "buggy" calligraphy tool. It is a more important matter to Windows and OSX Kritans, who can't access to Kexi. I suggest a plan to overhaul them.
1. To add horizontal text editing function As Japanese Kritans, I can't forget to put the feature in my suggestion. Possibly it will be better to implement the feature as independent tool like "Horizontal text" than to add it into text tool. 2. Overhaul of Calligraphy tool It is inspired by Paint Tool SAI. Krita heavily excels SAI in most of its features, but in vector tools SAI has smarter features. See this: http://mayoujii.deviantart.com/art/Tutorial-SAI-Linework-Layer-436343443 Although it limits its vector drawing functions to linearts (ペン入れレイヤー), its pen tool (ペン入れツール) and curve tool (曲線ツール) are very smart. Especially about curve tool which just connects anchor points with curve so we can draw smooth curve easily without manipulating troublesome bezier handles (to change curvature of a segment, you just add another anchor point on it). SAI's pen tool is similar to our calligraphy tool, except its stroke shape. So I suggest that Calligraphy tool should be developed into the following two tools ⇒Freehand path tool: It is similar to SAI's pen tool in linework layer and also most similar to current Calligraphy tool. (And we would change current name of "Freehand path tool" to something like "Smoothing stroke tool") ⇒Curve path tool: It is similar to SAI's curve tool. Both inherit features like "use tablet pressure" from calligraphy tool, but gain "outline" feature like Rectangle tool or Ellipse tool abandoning Calligraphic stroke shape. Additionally I suggest rearrange tool icons of tool palette like this:
・Vector tools: Shape Handling, Text tool, Pattern editing, Freehand path, Curve path, Gradient Editing, (Path editing) ・Vector-Paint tool: Line, Rectangle, Ellipse, Polygon, Polyline, Bezier, Smoothing stroke

Well, 2016 might be the year of vector tools...
![]() 1. You mean vertical text. Horizontal text is what western text is supposed to be. We're considering basing our future vector tools, including the text tool on SVG. Hopefully we'll be able to use something based on SVG2, because then we won't have to make up our own stuff for multi-line text and non-western writing systems: https://svgwg.org/svg2-draft/text.html 2. Check out https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=265814 and https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=227129 . Again, SVG2 is discussing to put this into the spec, and it would be really great for us if there was a library implementing this, because then we could focus on getting it working in Krita and keep compatible with other vector programs. |

To be honest, I just want it to have more vector functionality. I, as well as many others, would love to have a solid free alternative to Adobe Illustrator. Inkscape just doesnt cut it (horrible UI) and i think Krita has a lot of potential where others don't.

Well... Krita is a raster graphics editor. Its vector editing feature is just subsidiary to raster painting. What can be an alternative to Adobe Illustrator is Inkscape or Karbon, though they are horrible. You should go to user forum of Inkscape to make your request to improve them. Krita won't and shouldn't overcome Adobe Illustrator.
