I've a feeling this is a repeat post, but it needs attention.
In Krita 2.9 on Fedora 22, at least, the text feature is nearly impossible to use. To illustrate, let me describe my use of the text tool. I open my copy of Krita and get the typical blank screen, and I want to add some nice text. So I click on the text tool, and draw my rectangle to make the text. Right now, the setting mode is set to Artistic (because I changed it earlier). However, when I move the cursor across the screen, it blinks back and forth between the standard pointer and the "Unavailable" symbol, presumably because the mode keeps switching back and forth between artistic text and regular painting so fast it makes my eyes hurt. (Would that I knew how to make GIF's.) It stops when the cursor stops moving, however. Right now I can change the text, but not its size, because my cursor doesn't work in artistic text. I can change the font itself through the Tool Options dialog, except that a) it requires some tricks with the cursor to keep it from switching back to paint mode, and b) it doesn't do anything. (The second word was typed with the font ostensibly changed to Times New Roman.) You can resize the text by leaving and using Select mode and scaling, which works, but also makes it really easy to mess up the lettering. (I didn't put in an image because, frankly, I forgot to. Also, I linked to the images because I'm too lazy to change their sizes or write a script to do it for me.) Now that I'm done with that illustrated rant, let me make a suggestion to the developers. (The [idea] notation up top looks really tempting, but I don't know how to use it, since this is my F1RST POST!! If a moderator could add that in for me and maybe PM me on the syntax, that would be great.) For Krita 3.0 (which is in alpha, if I recall), could you please make a more user-friendly text box? I remember using GIMP before switching to Krita for my art stuff, and with the newer versions, anyway, they had a somewhat straightforward text-insertion system. Could you have a pop-up box on the top of the text insertion box, like GIMP does now? Could you fix the text insertion program so that the box actually changes the font size and shape, instead of being a placebox? Krita is great. Its painting tools especially are fantastic. But this is one area where Krita is still, sadly, lacking. For 3.0, it would be nice if it got fixed and whipped back into shape. (It would be awesome if it got fixed even earlier.) Thanks for hearing me out, snarky comments and all. Signed, 4of92000 |

Not for 3.0, sorry. That's the Qt5 port, animation and cache level performance optimization and kickstarter stretch goals. We're already stretched thin like gossamer trying to get this done! Text and vector objects will be a focus for the 2017 kickstarter, though, because now we're no longer needing to share the text code with Calligra Words, we can start changing things around for real.
